Salary Range:
$22.74-$24.27 (BCGEU, Grid 3)


Hours: 26 bi weekly


Schedule:
Saturday-Sunday 8:00am to 4:00pm, includes a 30-minute unpaid meal break

Pursuant to the Provincial Health Officer's Order, the incumbent of this position is required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

We will only consider applicants who are fully vaccinated, or who have received an exemption from the Provincial Health Office.

Proof of either must be provided in advance of any offer of employment being made.
Job Summary

The Custodian performs basic janitorial, maintenance and repair duties for the Program facility such as unplugging sinks and toilets, filling small holes in walls / ceilings, touching up paint, checking oil and fluid levels, and replacing tap washers, light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, and door handles.

Also cleans external areas and cleans, washes, and disinfects building areas. Assists program staff with preparing rooms for new tenants, including pest control. Performs basic security duties such as patrolling buildings and grounds. Also interacts with and takes direction from the Operations Manager or designate as needed.
Program Summary

The Jubilee Rooms provides around 80 units of single room occupancy (SRO) housing to people that are long term residents of the Downtown Eastside community.

This is a supported housing program that is staffed by a combination of Tenant Support Workers, Indigenous Cultural Liaisons and a Peer specialist - all staff will oversee the front desk assisting with managing guests as well as providing community supports.

The building is a combination of two SRO's - four stories each with no elevator, lots of stairs and shared bathrooms and showers on every floor.

The program includes one meal a day and a light breakfast. The staff office is on the second floor with the safe use room right beside it.

Over the next year the main floor commercial space will be transformed into a community space for the tenants and staff along with a community kitchen in the back.

There is no elevator at the Jubilee Rooms, staff need to be able to manage lots of stairs.

QUALIFICATIONS
Many forms of education and experience are valued, including volunteering and lived experience of mental illness / addiction/ homelessness; Minimum education and experience includes:

  • Grade 1
  • Certificate in First Aid
  • Building Service Worker Certificate
  • Recent, related experience of 1 year
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

  • Demonstrates understanding of oppression and marginalization as related to homeless individuals.
