    Patient care

    Working in an environment that promotes professional accountability and responsibility, the Pathologist Assistant is an integral part of the pathology team and works closely with the Pathologists to provide a high standard of patient care. Under the direction of staff Pathologists your key technical responsibility will be the preparation, handling and selection of diagnostic tissues from surgical specimens which are submitted for examination. 48_Analyze Created with Sketch.

    Analysis

    Grossing of surgical cases including complex cancer resections and selection for microscopic examination by PathologistDictation via voice recognition technologyUse of tracking systemParticipation in daily grossing roundsPhotography/annotation of gross specimensDecalcification of bone specimensLoading of Tissue Processors

    Education

    Master of Science degree in a Pathologist Assistant Program and/or holding ASCP and/or CCCPA certification or equivalent required. 48_Experience Created with Sketch.

    Experience

    A minimum of one year's experience grossing surgical cases including complex cancer resections required. Experience with voice dictation and tracking systems an asset. 48_Administration Created with Sketch.

    Skills

    Strong knowledge of human anatomy and gross pathology in normal and disease states requiredStrong knowledge of dissection techniques requiredStrong knowledge of medical and technical terminology requiredExcellent interpersonal, communication , organizational and teamwork skills requiredAbility to prioritize workloadProficient computer skills and experience with an LIS system requiredKnowledge of quality assurance an asset 48_Creative Created with Sketch.
