Description
The Canadian Light Source Inc. (CLSI) is a national research facility of the University of Saskatchewan.

CLS produces very bright light to explore the nature and structure of molecules, and serves national and international users from academia, industry, and government institutions.


Responsibilities:


  • Training and supporting users at the beamline to ensure that they are able to perform their scientific experiments in a safe and effective manner
  • Assisting users and beamline staff in sample preparation and data processing
  • Aligning the beamline and setting up the endstation for users' experiments
  • Analysing and solving routine technical problems and developing recommendations to solve difficult, complex or unusual problems
  • Preparing beamline documentation and ensuring designs conform to CLS standards, and other relevant codes, standards and practices
  • Participating in the development of the XAS data acquisition and analysis of software
  • Assisting the senior scientist in the beamline upgrade/maintenance projects
  • Developing technical expertise in specific areas of beamline operation and equipment, either in hardware or software
  • Required to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to provide user support

Qualifications:


  • A relevant Master's degree or Ph.
D. in the natural sciences

  • A minimum of two years' experience in Xray Absorption Spectroscopy at a synchrotron or scientific laboratory with a Master's degree, or a minimum of one year related experience with a recently completed Ph.
D.

  • Experience in Xray Absorption Spectroscopy data analysis and interpretation is required.
  • Experience with advanced beamline instrumentation (detectors, cryostats, insitu cells, etc.) would be considered an asset.
  • Basic programming skills in Python or C++ are required

Remuneration:
Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
