About the Role


Reporting to the Senior Manager, Communications and Community Engagement, this role will work with the communications team to conceptualize and formulate plans that promote public education and strengthen relationships between the Board, its employees, parents, students and community groups.

The individual will have a strong background in writing and a love of all-things social media.


The incumbent will coordinate/support the development and distribution of internal and external communications, including Intranet, newsletters and other collateral materials.

They will draft media releases, write stories and provide research as needed for media relations working with the Communication/Engagement/Foundation Officers.

Has a good understanding of equity, diversity and inclusion.


Will support the board in honoring and centering the voices of Black, Indigenous, Racialized, TwoSpirit and LGBTQIA+, and individuals requiring special education supports/services.

There will be opportunities to assist in the planning and coordination of both internal and external special events as well as provide administrative support for the Corporate Communications department.


Duties include but are not limited to:
Social media coordination - response, multi-platforms/channels, days of significance

Lead and execute the storytelling functions of the department across digital platforms (e.g. social media, blog posts, intranet etc.)

Experience using SharePoint, Word Press, Canva and Adobe Creative Suite

Provide support to Communications Officers with issues/crisis management

Active member in special events planning teams coordinated at the system-level

Develop communications plans and execute associated tactics in support of system-wide or departmental events and initiatives such as assigned by the Communications and Community Engagement Team

Support the Focus on Youth Program

Daily communication operations support for Senior Manager, Communications and Community Engagement and the Director of Education


Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree in Corporate Communications, English or Journalism from an accredited college or university

three (3) years of experience in social media marketing, digital media, content creation and marketing in a public-sector organization

Completion of post-graduate public relations certificate is asset

Pursuit and interest of Accreditation of Public Relations designation is an asset

Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills

Demonstrate an anti-racist understanding and be responsive to the needs and interests of diverse associates

Experience working with Black, Indigenous, racialized, Two-Spirit & LGBTQIA+ communities, People with disabilities and other equity-seeking groups

Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to build collaborative working relationships and provide exemplary service to internal and external associates, levels of government and media

Excellent research and presentation skills

Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy, ability to meet timelines and maintain confidentiality

Analytical, problem solving and strategic thinking skills

Knowledge of Adobe products including Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, with experience in designing for social media and other digital mediums is an asset

Demonstrable social networking experience and social analytics tools knowledge
