    Course Information

    This course develops in detail an understanding of the design and construction documentation systems used in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry, focusing on the design development, construction documents, and construction procurement phases of the construction project. Central to this course is the preparation of construction documents as a means of communicating design intent. Principles such as accuracy, clarity, consistency, coordination and completeness are to be represented in these documents. These will be considered with regard to a range of project delivery methods, and their impact on relationships among the various parties to a construction contract will also be discussed.

    Estimated Number of Students: 120 students

    a) A part-time hourly appointment/ one semester is for less than 9 hours in any one semester.

    PLEASE NOTE: Pursuant to the University's and as a condition of employment, all successful candidates will be required to either submit valid proof of vaccination against COVID-19 or receive a . Course delivery in Fall 2024/Winter 2025 will be online, in-person or hybrid at the sole discretion of the hiring unit. Candidates hired for in-person courses will be required to carry out their teaching on campus. Candidates teaching remotely are required to have access to the appropriate technology, i.e. computer with camera and microphone and high-speed internet.

    Qualifications

    Evidence may be requested for all categories.

    Education

    Applicants must possess an accredited degree in Architecture (B.Arch., M. Arch. or equivalent).

    Applicants should demonstrate the relevance of their educational background to the subject matter of this course.

    Experience

    Applicants should have at least 5-years of experience as a practicing architect engaged in design and construction documentation work of buildings. Applicants should be familiar with digital tools, conventions and techniques used for communicating construction information.

    All applicants must demonstrate relevant experience in the documentation systems and IT technologies used in the

    AEC industry and AEC best practices for creating construction documents.

    Currency

    Applicants must demonstrate current understanding of the architectural field and the particular issues related to this course through professional practice, publications, and/or participation in relevant conferences (within the past five years).

    Applicants must be comfortable with the use of digital technologies in architectural production, including Building Information Modeling (BIM).

    Current DAS CUPE 1 Lecturers are expected to provide an updated currency report to be considered for contract lecturer positions as per article 17.(h) of the collective agreement.

    Teaching Skills

    Applicants must have experience teaching in a lecture environment to large classes (over 75 students) in the subject matter of this course. Teaching experience within an accredited program in architecture is preferred. Applicants without teaching experience, but with an exceptional record in practice, may be considered for this position.

    Applicants should demonstrate commitment to inclusive teaching and awareness of EDI priorities, including but not limited to demonstrated ability to make learning accessible and inclusive for a diverse student population; and incorporating course materials and/or guest lecturers to provide different knowledge, perspectives, lived experiences and worldviews.

    Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in all aspects of personal computers that are relevant to this course, including document creation, file management, internet research, and communications.

    Other Requirements

    Applicants are to submit samples of teaching work and/or design/creative/professional work or other documents that demonstrate work they have undertaken in the proposed area of focus.
