Nature of Work:
This position involves legal research, writing and editing in support of projects relating to human rights, legal empowerment, access to justice and alternative dispute resolution.More specifically, the range of projects includes: the application of the human rights code of Ontario to systemic discrimination in the redevelopment of residential rental properties; access to justice issues in the regulation of 'smart legal forms' and in the role of non-lawyers in advancing legal empowerment; access to state-funded counsel or other representation in criminal law, child protection matters and/or the Ontario Landlord and Tenant Board; access to justice competencies in legal education; and, current approaches to access to justice, trauma-informed lawyering and similar issues in the alternative dispute resolution courses.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must submit a single application document that contains a cover letter (explaining qualifications and interest), a transcript or list of law school grades and an up-to-date CV. This must be submitted via the CV upload tool in the Work Study Navigator portal as well as on the Workday career portal.
REQUIRED : Law student who has completed at least first year with demonstrated strength in research and writing
PREFERRED: Demonstrated interest in access to justice issues in general and identified research projects in particular;
RELEVANT: Prior experience in researching access to justice issues.
