    The role of Development Manager will directly contribute to our objectives of creating long-term economic prosperity for the Nation and its Members and will provide leadership in the advancement of new and exciting projects throughout Squamish Nation Territory.

    Our work assesses Squamish Nation lands and creates development plans that meet the Nation's social, environmental, cultural, economic, and political goals.

    Nch'ḵay̓ was established in 2018 as the economic development arm of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw, Squamish Nation.

    Our mandate is to develop, manage, and own the active businesses of the Nation, and allow for the separation of business and politics within the Squamish Nation.

    The Development Manager is a Permanent Full-Time position based at Nch'ḵaỷ's Head Office.

    Our Head Office is in West Vancouver, BC on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Sḵw̱xwú7mesh (Squamish) Nation and its people.

    To effectively meet project demand Nch'ḵaỷ seeks an enthusiastic Development Manager for its team.

    Working directly with the Vice President, Real Estate and Development will actively lead a diverse portfolio of multi-family residential projects from inception through to final occupancy.

    Specifically, the Manager will effectively lead and oversee project teams while continuously collaborating with colleagues in Finance, Operations, Business Development, Marketing, Communications, Planning, Leasing & Property Management, and Acquisitions.

    The Development Manager is a key player in all phases of the real estate development process, including site selection, feasibility studies, financial analysis, and forecasting, high-level conceptual planning and design, permitting and approvals, and project management.

    The Development Manager will project manage a range of complex land developments on First Nation reserves and fee simple lands, requiring an understanding of Squamish Nation values, how to incorporate these into a planning process and master planning design, as well as development approvals within First Nations land jurisdiction.

    Anticipated development uses range from residential, mixed-use, commercial, and industrial product types under leasehold, designated reserve, and fee simple tenures.

    Knowledge of land development technicalities (i.e. environmental remediation, civil servicing, ecological restoration, geotechnical conditions), mixed-use construction delivery methods, and planning multi-phased, master-planned communities is an asset.
    Support and facilitate open and clear communication among all members of the project team.

    • Under the direction of leadership conduct feasibility studies to identify and plan for the development potential of Nation lands, both on and off reserve.
    • Procure and project manage multidisciplinary consultant teams to conduct feasibility analysis (i.e. urban designers, architects, landscape architects, civil engineers, geotechnical engineers, cultural advisors, archeologists, environmental engineers, appraisers, land economists, market analysts, etc.)
    • Support required land designations/rezonings and permitting – attend support-related community events, as necessary, as a means of engagement.
    • Collaborate with Nch'ḵay̓ and Squamish Nation Communications to identify community and public communications needs – inform and support the creation of materials.
    • Prepare and/or coordinate market research reports, financial analysis, and feasibility studies.
    • In collaboration with Nch'ḵay̓'s Finance team, support the preparation of development proformas on an ongoing basis and at various stages throughout the development process to ensure the viability of projects.
    • Prepare project status reports for Nch'ḵay̓ Senior / Executive Leadership teams and Board of Directors summarizing key project metrics (ie. budget, scope, schedule, key risks/liabilities) identifying approvals/directions needed.
    • Facilitate project meetings with internal and external team members.

    Maintain current knowledge of industry trends and policies – attend events as appropriate and share/exchange knowledge with Nch'ḵay̓'s Real Estate team.


    • Contribute to the development and maintenance of a positive workplace culture.
    • Executive Vice President, Real Estate & Development
    Minimum five years of experience in real estate, development management, planning, project management or related industry experience.

    • preferably in real estate, urban planning, or a related field
    • Proven ability to lead projects from feasibility, acquisition, and approvals to delivery.
    • Strong knowledge of feasibility analysis, community consultation, and approvals processes.
    • Excellent organizational, time-management, and multi-tasking skills.
    • Strong team player with solid communication skills – the ability to meaningfully engage with diverse views, opinions, and perspectives in group settings.
    • Ability to set and manage priorities to meet deadlines.
    • Highly proficient in MS Office software (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
    • Required a valid BC Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle.
    • Experience working with First Nations is an asset.
    Office work (prolonged sitting, lifting boxes X lbs.).

    • Attendance of public, community, and council meetings outside of normal office hours.
    • Frequent site visits in the North Shore, Squamish Valley, and Sunshine Coast.
