    Work Hours: Part-time hours for April to May, then 37.5 hours per week Monday – Friday starting June 1 until August 30, 2024

    Day Camp Camper Care Coordinators provide on-site leadership and administrative support to the camp staff and campers at the camp locations that are within their assigned region. This role works closely with Camp, Senior and Regional Directors and plays a vital role in the planning, training and delivery of programs including the Accessibility and Inclusion program. This role is also responsible for communicating with the Y contact centre, Y childcares and the parents/guardians of the campers. A successful candidate must demonstrate a high level of organization, be child/youth focused, have effective communication skills and be committed to a high level of customer service.

    In this role, you will:

  • Provide leadership to Camp Directors, Camper Care Leads and Accessibility & Inclusion Counsellors through training, coaching and monitoring performance throughout the summer
  • Plan and facilitate high-quality training to Day Camp staff prior to the beginning of camp
  • Work closely with the Contact Centre to review and place campers into the Accessibility and Inclusion program
  • Provide participant profiles, camper program information, and additional information to the required camps and staff prior to the week of the child attending camp
  • Collect, review, and file documentation accurately and in a timely manner inclusive of; documenting behaviours, communication and withdraws
  • Communicate with childcare supervisors and staff on a need to know basis to ensure the best customer service and experience for camper and family
  • Support Camp Directors or Camper Care Leads with parent/guardian communication through either email, phone or in person meetings
  • Responsible for attending all staff trainings and meetings; arriving on time, and actively participating and contributing to the development of all camp staff
  • Ensure Health & Safety procedures are being followed and maintained and contribute to the cleaning, safety and maintenance to camp sites
  • Act as a positive role model for the campers and fellow staff through embodying the YMCA values, policies and procedures, Day Camp conditions of employment/guidelines and the Ontario Camping Association standards
  • What you need to succeed:

  • Commitment to the YMCA's
  • Focus on the health, safety and wellbeing of all children, youth, and vulnerable people in YMCA programs including understanding legal and moral obligations related to reporting suspected child abuse to Child Protection Services
  • YMCA Competencies: Accountable, Relationship-Builder, Improvement-Orientated, Team Player & Leader, Equity and Wellbeing Promoter
  • You bring:

  • Post-secondary education (or currently enrolled in) working with children with disabilities or behavioural needs;
  • Standard First Aid and CPR 'C' certificate valid until the last day of contract
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a child-oriented programs
  • Experience as a supervisor an asset
  • Experience working with children and youth with disabilities in recreation and leisure programs; camp experience preferred
  • Daily access to a vehicle and valid license and ability to travel within your assigned region
  • Demonstrated ability to work well both independently and in a team environment
  • Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with families, staff and volunteers
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to lead a group of children
