Opportunity

MacEwan University is seeking a Communications and Web Support Coordinator for a full-time continuing opportunity with our Library department.

Reporting to the Manager, Library Operations, you will design, develop, and advises on communications and web related functions to promote Library services, collections, events, and initiatives.

As an active member of the Library's Digital Initiatives and Scholarly Communications Unit, you will collaborate with team members to create and produce the overall design and functionality of the Library's website, while also supporting ongoing content development and maintenance, user engagement, and long-term website sustainability.

You will also develop content for a variety of media and coordinate various aspects of projects in order to support marketing and communications strategies and programs for the Library.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Performing a current state review of the Library's website, making recommendations for improvements and working collaboratively with the Web Librarian to implement approved changes to the Library's website content, appearance, layout, and flow of information;
  • Developing a design approach to assist with the development, design, and longterm sustainability of the Library's website based on best practices, accessibility standards, and responsive design reflective of user behaviour;
  • Maintaining the website, ensuring designs continue to meet usability and accessibility standards and practices, and adheres to the visual and branding guidelines of the institution;
  • Reviewing, editing, and publishing website content received from staff;
  • Drafting, editing and/or proofreading communications for the Library's website, newsletters, and social media channels;
  • Producing creative visual assets (photographs, videos, infographics, GIFs, stopmotion) in digital and print formats to promote Library services, collections, and events;
  • Creating visual designs for brochures, postcards, signage, infographics and other materials for both print and digital platforms;
  • Supporting the creation and implementation of the library communication strategy;
  • Tracking Library social media engagement statistics and website metrics, and producing summary usage reports to inform future project work;
  • Working collaboratively with internal Library stakeholders to identify promotional and communication requirements and recommending suitable solutions and tactics to support the initiative(s), while ensuring alignment with the department and broader institution's standards, policies, practices and strategy;
  • Creating highquality, engaging and relevant content for various social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, and X (Twitter);
  • Updating, monitoring and responding to comments, questions and feedback on the Library's social media accounts in a timely manner; and
  • Creating schedules, deadlines, and timelines for design deliverables among competing projects.

SKILLS

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of web design, communications, print, and digital media;
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and responsive design;
  • An eye for effective design and the impact of layout and messaging in communications materials;
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written;
  • Strong time management and organizational skills, with an ability
