Nature and Scope

The Business Analyst plays a key role in providing guidance and support to faculty and administration in the evaluation and analysis of information technology (IT) requirements and solutions within academics and other departments as applicable.

This position will positively promote and create an environment that demonstrates SIIT's vision, mission, and mandate.


General Accountability

As a member of SIIT's Academic department, reporting to the Director, Strategic Initiatives, the Business Analyst uses their knowledge, skills and experience to understand business requirements and identifies opportunities to maximize use of information technology within applicable departments.

This position is expected to remain up to date and current with knowledge and trends in their area of expertise.


Specific Accountabilities

The Business Analyst uses best practice techniques such as process mapping and interviews to document and understand the current state of current business processes and requirements.

The Business Analyst researches, analyzes and evaluates existing or potential technology solutions to address identified and future looking requirements, identifying cost effective solutions aligned with technology architectures and strategies within academics and other departments.

The Business Analyst will actively lead or participate in project teams for the delivery of information technology solutions.

This position includes the following broad range of accountabilities:

Business Process and Requirements Analysis_**- Facilitate SIIT stakeholders in articulating information technology needs within academics and other departments as applicable, exploring solutions and evaluating the impact of any potential solution

  • Research, review, model, and analyze the usefulness and effectiveness of existing processes and develop recommendations for improving or further leveraging these processes
  • Review and update process documentation including business process flow diagrams, quality and procedure documents, and create new process documentation where required

_ Requirements Evaluation and Solutions Identification_

  • Translate business requirements into technical requirements, solutions and options
  • Research, analyze and evaluate existing or potential technology solutions to address identified requirements ensuring solutions are aligned with technology architectures and strategies
  • Ensure alignment of business requirements with baseline functionality of technology solutions to meet approved and prioritized requirements

_ Solution Implementations_

  • Collaborate with other staff as required to ensure efficient implementation of solutions
  • Work closely with end user departments to develop appropriate implementation strategies and plans for new solutions
  • Demonstrate leadership in sharing technical expertise with other team members, and contribute to clients' effective use of technology through guidance and training as required

_ Reporting and Compliance_

  • Compile status and progress reports as defined by leadership
  • Identify and report out of compliance activities with SIIT IT policies and procedures
  • Contribute to SIIT's strategic effectiveness by representing and participating on internal and external committees, as required
