Job Summary
Reporting to the Manager of Marketing and Media Strategy, the Content Writing Specialist works with the marketing, alumni and web teams to develop, write/source, and facilitate recruitment and retention focused content that aligns with overall college SEM objectives.
The incumbent works closely with the marketing and creative services team to ensure that content aligns with integrated marketing campaigns, the student journey map, and recruitment, and retention activities.
The incumbent will collaborate with other departments such as the Registrar's Office to ensure that content accurately reflects college processes and procedures.
The incumbent consults with the marketing and creative services team to plan, initiate and support the review, update and enhancement of website content on a regular basis, for example, the annual program webpage review process.
The Content Writing Specialist supports creating content for blogs, social media, eblasts and magazine articles, including organizing interviews and researching new topics.
What you'll be doing:
New Content Development
- Undertakes research to ensure content is accurate, timely, and aligns with college goals and strategy
- Writes, edits, and publishes content on a variety of platforms, including website and social media
- Contributes to the development of video storyboards and scripts
- Utilizes SEO techniques and keyword research to optimize new web content
- Collaborates with other college areas such as recruitment and academic areas to promote stories and content on social media, digital ads, and other opportunities
- Engages Mohawk College CSEP or placement students to research, write, edit and publish content for a variety of audiences
- Ensures new content is onbrand, and is written in the appropriate voice and tone
Content Process and Management
- Works with the marketing and web teams to prioritize, plan and undertake web content review, editing, updating and enhancements.
- Coordinates with content creators across the college to ensure alignment and identify opportunities for collaboration and crosssharing.
- Plans and manages content creation, sourcing, workflows and distribution process.
- Coordinates content calendar to ensure timely publishing aligned with key dates and goals.
Content Review and Maintenance
- Works with the marketing and web teams to prioritize, plan and undertake web content review, editing, updating and enhancements
- Utilizes SEO techniques when editing and rewriting web content. Performs regular audits of website to ensure content is optimized and refreshed on a regular basis.
- Assists the web team with the annual web program review; supports the traffic team to ensure key areas are involved in the process as needed
- Uses a content management system to edit web content (Drupal and/or Wordpress)
- Reviews analytics data to inform content prioritization, editing and enhancements
- Reviews content with an accessibility and EDI perspective to ensure it aligns with the college's commitments
What you'll bring to the role:
A minimum 2-year diploma in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, or equivalent combination of education and experience.- Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Experience using Adobe Creative Suite.
- Demonstrated experience working with a marketing team to develop content that aligns with integrated marketing campaigns.
- Social media content marketing.
- Demonstrated experience writing, editing, proofreading for blogs, websites, video scripts, and magazine articles.
- Project management skills.
- Planning and executing a content calendar.
- Understanding of HTML.
- Content management system (CMS) editing, Drupal and/or Wordpress an asset.
- SEO techniques.
- Communicating with vendors, photographers, and videographers.
- Photography and videography skills an asset.
- Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
- The ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse students, employees, and communities.
