    Position: Security Guard
    Site:     London Public Library - Crouch Branch
    City:     London, Ontario
    Status:     Part Time
    Hours:     Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday hr
    Pay Rate:     $17.50/hr
    Assignments include:
    Assist current Full Time guard to maintain order in the branch which includes taking the lead on all incidents, especially persons entering the washrooms to engage in drug use/criminal acts.
    Opening and closing the facility, patrolling interior and exterior spaces and controlling access/egress and providing security escorts as required
    Operating, accessing and occasionally monitoring the video surveillance equipment
    Monitoring and responding to alarm systems
    Guards should at all times, maintain a high standard of civility, deportment and appearance and guards shall maintain a proactive philosophy of compassion and de-escalation
    Supporting staff, volunteers, tenants and Library patrons by knowing and understanding the Library's Rules of Conduct and being able to apply these rules in a fair, dignified and positive manner.
    Reporting Incidents using the Library's Incident Reporting Tool
    Resolving incidents according to the Library's guidelines, instructions, procedures and reporting on incidents according to established procedures
    Protecting all persons (including public, staff, volunteers, on-site contractors, tenants) and property in the event of medical, fire, disaster, severe weather, bomb threat, evacuation and other emergencies
    Functioning as the Primary First Aid service provider at the Central Library. This might include the ability to administer a blocking medication such as Naloxone and use of devices such as automated external defibrillators (AED)
    All Emergency occurs are to be reported to the Library as soon as possible. A written incident report, using the Library's Incident Reporting Tool, shall be provided to the Library on any or all minor/major incidents

    Essential Job Functions:

    • Able to maintain a professional composure when dealing with unusual circumstances and people under conditions of urgency and in pressure situations
    • Write clear, concise and legible reports
    • Patrol assigned area on foot, as assigned, to ensure personal, building and equipment security
    • Communicates any concerns/issues with Site Supervisor
    • Able to maintain a professional composure when dealing with unusual circumstances and people under conditions of urgency and in pressure situations
    • Demonstrated punctuality and reliability, tact and diplomacy
    • Watch for and report irregularities by completing investigations and incident reports, such as security breaches, facility and safety hazards, and emergency situations; contact emergency responders, such as police, fire and/or ambulance personnel, as required

    Requirements:
    • Physical demands include excessive walking such as walking up to 5km in a shift and standing
    • Working knowledge of the Trespass to Property Act
    • Able to maintain a professional composure when dealing with unusual circumstances and people under conditions of urgency and in pressure situations
    • Excellent communication skills with a focus on customer service along with good computer abilities are all core requirements
    • Superior written and verbal communication skills. Ability to write clear, concise and legible reports
    • Demonstrated punctuality and reliability, tact and diplomacy
    • Patrol assigned area on foot, as assigned, to ensure personal, building and equipment security
    • Watch for and report irregularities by completing investigations and incident reports, such as security breaches, facility and safety hazards and emergency situations; contact emergency responders, such as police, fire and/or ambulance personnel, as required
    • Sustain effective relationships with key stakeholders and provide specialized security services by enforcing rules and regulations when required
    • Offer support to any person in need such as providing good customer service when providing a security presence, such as providing direction, responding to emergencies involving violent individuals and injuries
