Hours of Work

  • 40 Hour rotating scheduled workweek covering all shifts weekdays and weekends
  • Emergency backup coverage in Shelter
  • On-Call responsibilities during nonwork hours

Environment

  • Institutional setting; Emergency Shelter facility, Federal Corrections and Housing programs.

Purpose of the Position:

The Kitchen Manager will have primary responsibility to ensure effective food service provision and to coordinate and manage all aspects of a quantity kitchen in a professional manner.


Educational Requirements:
Food Handling Safety Certificate, First Aid and CPR, High School Diploma or GED, & Certification from Culinary School (preferred)


Position Requirements:
Minimum three years' experience in a management capacity in the food service industry. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Multi-task a variety of duties. Flexibility of work hours is required to ensure effective operation of kitchen services. Previous experience in the operation of a quantity kitchen. Knowledge of nutrition and therapeutic diets. Knowledge of sanitary and safety standards for food production, service areas and personnel. Certificate in safe food handling techniques. Understand and support the unique needs of the homeless population.


Job Duties:


  • Supervise and coordinate all food production including receiving, inventory, storage and ordering of food supplies within budgetary limits.
  • To incorporate food donations into the menu planning, to maintain existing donor base, and to actively seek new donor opportunities.
  • Responsible for planning and preparing varied and nutritious meals based on Canada's Food Guide.
  • Monitor regular and therapeutic menus and dietary restrictions for clients from all Programs.
  • Assist in the hiring process as required for any new Kitchen Program staff
  • Train, schedule, supervise and evaluate all parttime and fulltime staff in the kitchen Program.
  • Complete work orders, time sheets, payroll, and communication memos in accordance with duties.
  • Ensure the maintenance of high standards of cleanliness and organization of quality control for kitchen equipment and all food service areas.
  • Schedule and facilitate meetings of all Kitchen Program staff on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Attend meetings within other Program areas as required.
  • May be required to pickup supplies or food items.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and applicable to Program needs.
  • To demonstrate due diligence by inspecting the workplace regularly to ensure the overall safety of the facility, staff, volunteers, clients and to observe and adhere to all Occupational Health and Safety, Employment Standards, Public Health Standards, and the Human Rights Code as examples of applicable legislation in the workplace. To make recommendations for improvements or new equipment.
  • To advise workers under your supervision of any potential dangers and to ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and use equipment, devices and personal protective equipment required by the safejob procedures.
  • To take every precaution reasonable to protect workers from occupational injury or illness.
  • Assist in the planning of meals at CCA events.
  • Complete monthly statistics for the Daily Bread Food Bank and to ensure annual renewal of membership.
  • Organize and facilitate the Community Kitchen Program
  • Availability for on call support, and requires flexibility in work schedule dependent upon workload, shift scheduling, coverage, and meal requirements.
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures of the organization

Must have a valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle is a requirement for this position


Salary Grid
From starting $56,823.45 to maximum $71,694.73 in six annual increments.
