    Position Information Position Number S01122 Position Title Network & Cloud Infrastructure Team Lead Division/Portfolio IT Services Department/Program Network Services Location Kelowna Other Flexible Work Options Eligible for Hybrid Work Your Opportunity Under the limited direction of the Manager of Infrastructure, the Cloud Architect, Team Lead provides subject matter expertise, advisement, implementation, and senior technical network and cloud Infrastructure experience to Okanagan College.

    Responsibilities include supervision of Network Analysts, Network Operations Center (NOC) activities, for designing, implementing, and maintaining our Amazon Web Services and Azure cloud environments for Okanagan College.

    This role includes responsibilities for on-premises infrastructure. The ideal candidate will demonstrate leadership qualities and have experience supervising a team in a project focused.

    The role guides development and implementation of new network and cloud Infrastructure solutions or system changes and provides incident response, investigation, mitigation, and prevention activities.

    The Cloud Architect oversees and is hands-on with daily IT operations and technical teams to ensure Okanagan College delivers secure services, protects sensitive information, and follows regulatory and industry security best practices.

    Additionally, participates in the creation and maintenance of policies, standards, baselines, guidelines and procedures.

    Functions and Duties
    Cloud, Datacenter & Network Management

    • Lead and mentor a team in the design, implementation, and maintenance of AWS and Azure cloud solutions across Okanagan College campuses.
    • Collaborate with crossfunctional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions that align with best practices and industry standards.
    • Evaluate and select appropriate cloud services, platforms, and technologies to meet specific project requirements, ensuring alignment with the college's overall cloud strategy.
    • Act as the primary point of contact for cloudrelated projects, providing technical leadership, guidance, and support to the team.
    • Lead the migration of existing applications and workloads to AWS and Azure, ensuring minimal disruption and optimal performance for various college departments.
    • Design and implement onpremises infrastructure solutions, considering the specific needs and requirements of Okanagan College's physical environments.
    • Ensure the stability and performance of existing onpremises infrastructure, balancing responsibilities with cloudfocused project work.
    • Create and maintain documentation for architecture, design patterns, and operational procedures related to both cloud and onpremises environments.
    • Lead team to implement and enforce security best practices, including identity and access management, data encryption, and network security, to safeguard college data and systems.
    • Monitor, optimize, and troubleshoot both cloud and onpremises infrastructure to ensure high availability, performance, and cost efficiency across all campuses.
    • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members within the college's IT department, fostering skill development and knowledge sharing.
    • Stay up to date with the latest developments in cloud and onpremises technologies, recommending improvements to enhance the college's overall infrastructure strategy.
    • Collaborate with vendors, partners, and stakeholders within Okanagan College to stay aligned with the institution's educational goals and objectives.


    Leadership and Team Management:


    • Supervises Network Analysts, including assignment of duties, health and safety, orientation, training and staff development, recognition and reward, performance management and evaluation, scheduling, prioritization of work requirements and in consultation with the College Information Officer, completes recruitment and selection, as well as disciplinary action, as required.
    • Leads, guides, and motivates staff in maintaining high performance standards and customer satisfaction levels.
    Strategic Development and Innovation:


    • Assists College and IT Services leadership to develop and establish new strategy, select platforms, technologies, and services to meet strategic direction and future need, provide input and recommendation for secure solutions, technical innovation, operational efficiency, and service excellence.
    • Research latest vulnerabilities, exploits, infrastructure trends and new technology to better provide systems and data. Actively evaluates and searches the internal and external landscape for new risks and threats to information security and the organization.
    Stakeholder Engagement and Training:


    • Participates and contributes to IT infrastructure reporting, training, and awareness activities. Makes presentations and demonstrations to IT peers, Okanagan College faculty, staff, and senior management.
    • Working with sensitive employee and college data, including executive, leadership, administration, support, and faculty permissions, account information, system activity and access monitoring.
    Operational Oversight and

    Miscellaneous Duties:


    • Conducts assessments of IT resources and services; taking action to remediate operational issues.
    • Other duties as assigned.
    Education and Experience - Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field

    • Proven experience as a Cloud Architect, Solutions Architect, or similar role, with at least 6 years of handson experience in designing and implementing cloud solutions.
    • Strong expertise in Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Azure Cloud services, including compute, storage, networking, databases, security, and monitoring.
    • Professional certifications for AWS and Azure services
    Skills and Abilities - Demonstrated team leadership experience.

    • Solid understanding of infrastructure as code (IAC) principles and tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
    • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
    • Proficiency in scripting and automation using languages like Python, PowerShell, or Bash.
    • Knowledge of DevOps practices and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
    • Excellent problemsolving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with technical concepts explained to nontechnical stakeholders.
    • Demonstrated ability to lead projects, work effectively in a team, and mentor junior team members.
    • Experience with hybrid cloud and multicloud architectures is a plus.
    Preferred Qualifications Desired Start Date 06/10/2024 Position End Date (if temporary)

    Schedule Monday – Friday: 8:00am – 4:00pm (negotiable) Annual Salary/Hourly Rate Range $79,731 to $116,939. Typical Hiring Range $95,678 to $106,308.
