    Unit Summary

    Perioperative Services at all Hamilton Health Sciences sites provide pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care for both adults and children. The Hamilton General supports community hospital services and specializes in Cardiac, Vascular, Neurosurgery, and Adult Burns and Trauma.

    Position Summary

    The Registered Practical Nurse plays a key role in delivering peri-operative nursing care at Hamilton Health Sciences' Operating Room. They contribute to patient care following the defined job description and competencies for Registered Practical Nurses.

    Schedule Work Hours

    • Available for days, evenings, weekends, nights, and holidays
    • Must be reachable at the hospital within 30 minutes for on-call shifts

    Qualifications

    • Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse
    • Graduate of an approved Operating Room Technician program
    • Hold current Certificates in various medical procedures and care areas
    • Completed a Heart and Stroke Foundation CPR course or equivalent
    • Minimum of two years relevant Operating Room experience in a tertiary care facility
    • Demonstrated proficiency in cardiac, trauma, and vascular surgeries
    • Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills
    • Commitment to professional practice principles
    • Exhibit judgment, critical-thinking, and decision-making abilities
    • Engage in continuous personal professional education and development
    • Ability to endure wearing lead aprons for extended durations

    As a condition of employment, proof of full COVID-19 vaccination is mandatory and should be submitted to Employee Health Services.
