    Description

    Unit Summary

    The Same Day Surgery unit at McMaster Hospital handles a high volume of surgeries for both adults and children in critical conditions. The team works in a fast-paced environment.

    Position Summary

    The Registered Practical Nurse in this unit assists with peri-operative care for patients of all ages, following the job description and Scope of Practice for Registered Practical Nurses.

    Schedule Work Hours

    • Days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays

    This role is temporary until March 2025.

    Qualifications

    • Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse
    • Current Medication Administration and Asepsis Certificates, or ability to complete within 6 months
    • Current CPR course diploma or equivalent
    • Certification in venipuncture and 12 lead ECG
    • Completion of a nursing physical assessment course
    • Physical Assessment Certificate
    • Recent experience in pediatric and adult surgical skills
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
    • Strong communication and teamwork skills
    • Critical-thinking and decision-making abilities
    • Excellent communication and organizational skills

    Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination is required for employment.
