Academic and Field Experiences Advisor:


Primary Purpose:

3) To build relationships with off-campus undergraduate program partners (e.g. regional colleges) to optimize the student experience and to ensure that University of Saskatchewan policy and practices are upheld.


Nature of Work:

Reporting to the Associate Dean, Undergraduate Programs, Partnerships and Research, and in collaboration with the advising and field experience teams, the successful applicant will engage in partnership initiatives and academic advising for on-campus and off-campus students.

The work requires an understanding of undergraduate Bachelor of Education and certificate program routes, and admissions requirements and deadlines. Work-related travel in the province for building relationships with off-campus educational partners may be required. Work outside of normal business hours (evenings and weekends), travel, and flexibility are requirements of this position.

Working in a complex environment, this position requires discretion, tact, professionalism and a commitment to continuous improvement.

The work requires the ability to understand and accurately communicate college academic programs, and the need to prioritize in order to meet competing deadlines and demands.


Typical Duties or Accountabilities:


  • Work with partners to engage with, and support academic programs for, students from rural, remote, Northern, and Indigenous communities.
  • Develop and maintain effective and ongoing relationships with officials in the Saskatchewan PreK to Grade 12 school system, at peer institutions, officials at regional colleges, and other key stakeholders.
  • Provide timely and effective communication with student and parents seeking registration and program assistance; contacting accepted students who have not registered; and, other related communications.
  • Support students as they resolve student issues, making necessary referrals to link students with existing campus services, and working with students experiencing difficulty academically to develop student action (success) plans.
  • Validate professional development and other approved student activities for the Co-Curricular Record.
  • Encourage and empower students to assume responsibility for their academic career.
  • Liaise with other academic and nonacademic units across campus in order to provide effective and integrated student services.
  • Model a high standard of performance and outcomes; ensure positive, diverse and respectful work environments.
  • Participate in Access and Equity Services (AES) meetings and involvement in AES programming.
  • Orientation preparation with larger field team for all field experiences (EDST 213, EDST 321, EDST 322, and EXPR 422).
  • Term planning for various field experiences (team decision making, responsibilities, work flow, etc.).
  • Field facilitation, as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:
Bachelor's degree is required (B.Ed. is strongly preferred).

Experience:

At least three years of relevant experience working with student programs and services is required and preference given to experience as a classroom teacher.


Assets include:

  • Experience working with university personnel from various academic and nonacademic units, and with the Student Information System (SiRIUS)
  • Knowledge of the university's academic and administrative structures and processes
  • Knowledge of and experience working with Banner, Degree Works, and other relevant university and college IT systems
  • Experience academic advising
  • Understanding of the College of Education undergraduate program routes at the University of Saskatchewan
  • Familiarity with rural and northern communities
