General Accountability:


  • Reporting to the Manager of Warehousing & Distribution, the incumbent supports the Area Supervisor in the daily operations of their assigned work location(s). This involves ensuring appropriate materials management practices and principles are in place to protect the TTC's assets while providing the materials and parts necessary to support ongoing operations. The Assistant Areas Supervisor will be responsible for coordinating, supporting and ensuring the safety of all Material Management employees.

In addition responsibilities include:
traveling & auditing the various TTC Material Management locations across multiple shifts, ensuring the security of the stores areas; ensuring the state of good repair of materials management facility and equipment; ensuring completion of various monthly reports; training of material management employees, coordinating workforce labour and performing other related duties as assigned


Key Job Functions:


  • Assist in the daily operation of the assigned work location(s) on various shifts to ensure inventory parts are stocked, stored and distributed on a daily basis to meet the needs of the user departments throughout the TTC

This involves:

  • Monitoring and coordinating labour for hourlyrated Storepersons/Senior Storepersons in conducting the daily routines of shipping, receiving, issuing and maintaining records using the ERP System.
  • Liaising with Materials Management Department staff, shop management and contract staff regarding the delivery and pickup of numerous types of parts for emergency purposes and in order to protect TTC's assets
  • Ensuring that vehicle operation (deliveries/pickups) is performed in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act and related applicable legislation
  • Monitoring input transactions made to the ERP System by employees are timely, accurate and complete
  • Ensuring appropriate daily cycle count audits for stock are performed on a timely basis
  • Liaising directly with the Operations Branch supervisory & management staff in dealing with daily issues in order to meet their work schedules, and arranging for parts required to support these special needs
  • Monitoring inventory and performance targets by tracking days of supply, fill rate (shelf life), time dated material, etc. Create maintain and distribute monthly KPI reports for warehousing & distribution
  • Supporting the scheduling of trucks to pick up and deliver material to various TTC locations (e.g. bus garages, carhouses, etc.)
  • Ensure the receiving, counting, stocking and managing all rebuilt parts
  • Support the daytoday activities of Senior Storepersons, Storepersons and apprentices
  • Motivating and training assigned staff, ensuring teamwork and high standards of work quality and organizational performance
  • On call weekend/holiday coverage will be required
  • Ensuring that the work performed is carried out safely and in accordance with standard practice;

Key Job Functions continued:


  • Ensuring the security of the assigned work area by ensuring doors are locked and alarm systems are activated when, and as required
  • Maintaining discipline and promoting harmony in the section; ascertaining facts to resolve grievances
  • Investigating various injuries, accidents, incidents or other problems which may arise, and initiating corrective action or making recommendations
  • Ensuring that rules and regulations originating in the Collective Agreement, TTC and departmental policies, and Government Legislation
  • Making recommendations regarding the selection of new employees, upgrading or progression of probationary employees, and the downgrading or dismissal of unsuitable employees
  • Participating in the inhouse health and safety training programs
  • Attending and/or arranging various meetings to discuss work matters
  • Preparing a variety of written reports, correspondence, studies, etc. concerning the section's activities
