- Group C – Single Family Residential Buildings
- Residential ancillary buildings
- Agricultural buildings
- Review of proposed building designs, materials, and devices for compliance with related bylaws, regulations, and codes
- Process, accept, or reject proposed building construction plans
- Provide information services to the public on technical, regulatory, and code requirements
- Prepare related correspondence and reports
- Must have completed Grade 12;
- Must be qualified to Level 1 in accordance with the Provincial Regulations and Building Officials'
- Must have working knowledge of the purpose, scope and contents of the current BC Building Code for all Part 9 single family dwellings and ancillary buildings less than 600m2 and 3 storeys in building height.
- Must be in possession of a valid B.C. Driver's Licence;
- Must have the skills required to understand and apply fundamental code concepts to building design and construction of single family dwellings and ancillary buildings;
- Must be enrolled in a red seal journeyman carpenter program or in a diploma in Building Technology which must be completed within 3 years of appointment to this class description;
- Must have a minimum of 2 years of related, additional experience;
- Ability to read and interpret plans, blueprints and specifications;
- Ability to prepare and present technical and nontechnical written and verbal reports;
- Must be in possession of a valid B.C. Driver's Licence;
- Sound knowledge of the BC Building and Plumbing Codes and other related bylaws, acts, standards and

Duties:
The incumbent in this class will assist management to achieve an efficient operation in the Building Section of the Department through reliable performance of plan checking and building inspection for all building types identified in the scope of work within the City and observing municipal policies and security and safety practices.
As a member of the Development and Regulatory Services Department's Building Division team, the Building Inspector Level 1 will be primarily responsible for the processing and issuing of building permits and inspections in accordance with the BC Building Code for buildings up to 600m2 and 3-storeys in building height classified as:
The incumbent will possess the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and to use tact when dealing effectively with developers, contractors, other government agencies and members of the public.
The incumbent will be skilled in reading and interpreting building construction plans and drawings; as well as, have relevant knowledge of bylaws, regulations, codes, policies, procedures, and standards.
Incumbents will give evidence in Court as required and perform other related tasks as assigned.
Assignments and responsibilities are carried out in accordance with established routine and performance is subject to review, inspection and evaluation by the Director
