    Chief Operating Engineer

    Description:

    About the Position

    The role of Chief Operating Engineer involves a strong focus on personnel and operations safety, effective team management, and ensuring operational excellence. As the Chief Operating Engineer, you will leverage your expertise to oversee production processes, troubleshoot production issues, and offer insights for process enhancements. Responsibilities may include assessing equipment needs, optimizing process efficiencies, and overseeing equipment installations and upgrades. Your duties will also involve leading a team to guarantee smooth daily operations at the facility.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Participate in safety initiatives, foster a safety-oriented culture, and ensure staff compliance with safety protocols
    • Manage a 9 MW CHP system efficiently
    • Establish and maintain standard operating procedures for CHP operations
    • Supervise maintenance personnel and contractors, prioritize maintenance tasks, and uphold equipment safety standards
    • Implement a robust preventative maintenance program
    • Communicate effectively with management and peers, enforce policies, and provide necessary training
    • Lead the power engineering team, oversee staffing, training, and scheduling
    • Ensure operational compliance with regulations and communicate with regulatory bodies as needed

    Required Skills and Qualifications

    • Proficiency in managing natural gas combustion turbines and heat recovery steam generators
    • Ability to adapt to a dynamic work environment
    • Strong mechanical aptitude
    • Excellent oral and written communication abilities
    • Proficient in using computer systems
    • Knowledge of food safety practices is advantageous

    Education and Work Experience

    • Hold an Ontario or Interprovincial 1st Class Power Engineer certificate
    • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a supervisory role
