    Established in 2010, Sioux Lookout Regional Physicians' Services Inc. (SLRPSI) was created to provide innovative, patient-focused physician services in the Sioux Lookout area.

    SLRPSI was founded to govern and manage physician services within the region, While working under SLRPSI, physicians can work in various settings, including the emergency room, clinic, and northern community support.

    SLRPSI has family physicians who work a full scope of practice, filling various roles within the hospital and acting as ER doctors, hospitalists, full-time family practice, and locums.

    This work can occur within Sioux Lookout or in one of the 31 First Nations communities where we provide health services.


    Role Definition:


    The SLRPSI Medical Director collaborates with the SLFNHA Physician Services Director in organizing and coordinating physician services and services provided by other healthcare professionals under the auspices of SLRPSI.

    This is a part-time role accounting for approximately half of the physician's time, allowing for clinical work in Sioux Lookout, the region, or outside the region.

    The SLRPSI Medical Director must have their CPSO license. AccountabilityThe SLRPSI Medical Director is hired by, and is directly accountable to, the SLRPSI Board.


    General Responsibilities:
    expert medical advice to all health service programs under SLRPSIand assist the SLRPSI Board on the development and implementation Physician Policies and Procedures in alignment with current practices and operational requirements of the local health care systemthe development and implementation SLRPSI's strategic plandirectly involved and advocate in all Ontario Medical Association, Ontario Health, Federal and Provincial ministry meetings with regards to physician services and compensationBoard and

    Committee Membership:

    participate as a nonvoting member of the SLRPSI Board.(as required) in the various committees and working groups of SLRPSI, including but not exclusive to Per Diem Committee, Finance Committee, Governance Committee, Recruitment and Retention and the Mainframe Agreement working group.


    Specific Responsibilities:

    Recruitment:

    close partnership with the SLFNHA medical director, SLMHC chief of staff, Hugh Allen Clinic physician lead, and Northern Practice Coordinator(s), develop innovative and effective recruitment and retention strategies in keeping with regional needs.participate in the recruitment process (events, conferences, meetings with prospective physicians, liaise with learners during their and responsive to current physician recruitment/retention trends in Ontario and nationally.


    Northern Communities:

    the SLFNHA Medical Director in providing medical direction (advisory, technical explanations, education etc.) to First Nation community health teams and to the community leadership (Chief and Council, Health Directors, and health care providers at all levels)with dispute resolution between SLRPSI health care providers and individual community members, families, or leadership.investigate any patient or community complaints about medical care and services and provide feedback whenever feasible within the bounds of patient confidentialitycollaboration with the SLFNHA Medical Director, work with other stakeholders (MOH, Emergency Management, Health Canada, SLMHC, physician and nursing groups) to provide emergency and other services during crisis situations.

    Examples may include medical cases with unexpected adverse outcomes, large scale traumas, community evacuations (fire, water hazards), opioid and suicide crises, legal inquests and investigate concerns from Northern communities about quality of health care services including those provided by SLRPSI physicians.

    This may include issues of access, timeliness of services and follow up, need for a second medical opinion and the quality of the services provided.

    This may necessitate in person visits to individual communities for face-to-face meetings and problem solving.

    Meet regularly with senior community nursing personnel to discuss areas of mutual concern and share plans and proposals that will ensure improved quality of care at the community level.participate in the process by which SLFNHA, First Nations, Health Canada, the Ontario MOH, Meno Ya Win and other stakeholders work to expand and enhance Primary Care services at the community level whenever feasible.towards a system where service is provided as close to home as possible and that these services are provided in a culturally safe and sensitive manner and are directly responsive to the needs of the individual, their family, and the community.


    Governance and Operations:
    In close partnership with the SLFNHA medical director, SLMHC chief of staff, Hugh Allen Clinic physician lead, Northern Practice Coordinator(s), and

    Mamow Medical Director:

    oversight of physician concerns and/ or implementation of triggered performance assessments according to processes set out in the SLRPSI policies and procedures.oversight and application of quality assurance guidelines and policies as required by Professional Bodies responsible for Physician Licensing in Ontario i.e.

    The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) and Certification and Maintenance of Competency in Family Medicine i.e.

    The Canadian College of Family Physicians (CCFP).Coordinate an extensive Physician orientation process for all new SLRPSI physicians to the region, including expectations of cultural safety, ethical responsibilities and expectations, quality, and risk management, SLRPSI policies and physician scheduling, monitor resource allocation, and appropriate usage and distribution of physician services (including remote First Nation maintain an inventory of requisite physician qualifications and skills for various physician roles in the Sioux Lookout approve the qualifications of all physicians contracted to SLRPSIopportunities and implement plans for quality improvement in the delivery of programs and services that will align with SLRPSI oversee a quality assurance program for physician services.communication and collaboration with SLFNHA, SLMHC, the physician practices (Northern Practice, HAC, and Mamow) and regional stakeholders (KDSB, OPP, CCAC, etc.) on issues pertinent to the delivery of programs and services.

    Continue to develop the role of the SLRPSI Medical Director as the system changes and evolves necessitating review of roles and responsibilities.

    Provide medical direction for the Northern clinic including review of policies, procedures, and oversight of clinical care provided by SLRPSI-contracted providers.


    Physicians:


    and implement a physician workforce plan for the Sioux Lookout region, including both family medicine and specialist oversee a process of identifying and supporting physicians who are struggling to meet their professional obligations either from a clinical competence or professionalism perspective, with the discretion to implement practice restrictions and supports as need be, and with the authority to recommend contract termination within the legal bounds of the SLRPSI contract if these approaches are not advocate for physicians to avail themselves of educational and skill-enhancing opportunities to enhance the scope and quality of locally provided medical support for any physician experiencing a personal or family crisis and direct and support them to appropriate care and services.communication and collaboration amongst practitioners and staff involved in the care of patients within the region.


    Confidentiality:
    The SLRPSI Medical Director will maintain confidentiality regarding discussions that take place at meetings. Also, information will not be shared with persons within or outside SLRPSI who are not authorized to have it.


    Compensation:
    Approximately $180,000- $200,000 for .
