Applications are invited for the position of Community Relations and Events Specialist in the Community Relations and Events Division, located at the Daniel J.

Patterson Campus. The salary range is $68,911 to $86,140 for a 35-hour work week. Additional hours may be required as necessary.


The incumbent will develop, implement and execute plans and strategies to actively engage external stakeholder and community groups, and manage events that serve to support unique opportunities that promote the public profile and reputation of the College.

Working within a fast-paced, responsive portfolio, the incumbent works collaboratively with various departments across the college, including the Office of the President and the Executive Team, to plan and execute convocation ceremonies, Dignitary events and tours, media events and announcements, dates of significance that Niagara College recognizes, and other external stakeholder events.


Working under the guidance of the College's Advancement Strategy and Strategic Plan, the incumbent will also work to explore new and emerging opportunities to build community partnerships within their portfolio, outlining benefits and the parameters of each opportunity.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing high-profile College events and unique special initiatives that could include; convocation ceremonies, media events and announcements, Dignitary visits, community celebrations, and other external stakeholder events
  • Acting as the primary contact for community partners within their portfolio, providing knowledgeable and timely communication to ensure the delivery of successful events
  • Providing onsite supervision at all events, managing logistics, ensuring protocol is followed, offering direction and support for any adjustments, changes and/or equipment revisions
  • Administering the work of internal service departments as it pertains to event and partnership activities, ensuring the work meets the requirements and expectations of each initiative, this includes equipment and tools for successful execution
  • Guiding and approving the development of communications plans, consulting with Marketing and Corporate Communications to ensure that community event promotion, registration and outcomes are accurately communicated as required, e.g., web, digital content, social media, internal communications, and Executive Team briefings
  • Supporting a culture of advancement excellence at the College, contributing to and achieving strategic priorities and goals

Qualifications:


  • Minimum three (3) year diploma/degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Events Management, Public Relations, Social Sciences or similar field of study
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in event planning and production, public relations, partnership building and/or community engagement
  • Must have superb planning and organizational skills and ability to manage high volumes of activity; able to work simultaneously on multiple initiatives with demanding deadlines and manage time/resources accordingly
  • Exceptional attention to detail, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and experience in editing and proofreading
  • High level of independence and excellent judgment in task prioritization and decisionmaking
  • Knowledge of communications planning, creative brief development, event marketing and advertising, media relations, and social media are considered an asset
  • Valid Ontario Driver's License and personal vehicle available for use at work
  • Ability to work flexible hours
