Communications and Public Engagement (CPE) is the Government of Alberta's full-service communications, public relations and marketing agency.

CPE provides planning, execution and measurement of all communications efforts.

Its expert staff provide specialized services across the spectrum of communications and marketing from research, design, writing and social media, to event coordination, issues management, digital communications, advertising and public engagement.


The agency staffs the external communications functions in all departments of government and its operations branch, with a mandate of enhancing communications between the people and the Government of Alberta.

Role:

Looking for a change?

CPE has Communications Advisor (PS 4) positions available at a number of ministries within the Government of Alberta. This position provides consulting services and support to clients within the department, working closely with other communications advisors.

The role includes planning and attending ministerial announcements, producing lively communications materials, and effectively using social media and digital communications.

You must demonstrate strong writing and editing skills, and communications expertise.


Your job duties will include:

  • Liaising and consulting with clients to develop and implement strategic communications plans and key messages.
  • Using creativity and innovation to approach projects and solve complex problems.
  • Researching, writing and editing a wide range of communications tools.
  • Planning and preparing communications events and media availability.
  • Supporting crossgovernment communications initiative.
  • Assisting senior branch members, as required.
Communications Advisors in all ministries have some things in common.

You must understand the goals and priorities of the Government of Alberta and how they align with ministry deliverables, stakeholders and other groups.

You will use proven relationship-building skills to proactively develop networks, allowing you to better understand clients' communications needs and become a trusted advisor in areas such as issues management, communications planning and media event planning.

A strong drive for results help will help you deliver high-quality, strategic plans and products that engage target audiences.

Qualifications:


Degree or diploma in communications, public relations, journalism, English or a related field, plus a minimum of four years of directly related communications or correspondence experience.


  • Demonstrated experience with strong writing and editing skills,
  • Experience developing strategic communication plans.
  • Experience with issues management.
  • Experience with media event planning.
  • Equivalencies to be considered as below:
  • Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; OR 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
  • Assets:
  • Experience with issues management, speechwriting and media relations.
As part of the selection process, qualified applicants will be required to participate in a writing test.

Salary:

$2,716.64 to $3,550.90 bi-weekly ($70,904 to $92,678/yearly)
