Why is this role important?

  • The Primary Health Care Standards Development team is responsible for a multiyear project to develop the panCanadian Health Data Content Framework, which defines, standardizes and models the health data required to enable connected care in Canada.
  • Working within an interdisciplinary matrix team environment on interoperability, the Program Specialist is responsible for supporting the project activities of the panCanadian Health Data Content Framework, conducting analyses across multiple CIHI minimum data standards and relevant external data standards (primary health care, acute and ambulatory care, etc.), CIHI's Common Reference Data Model and across international interoperable data exchange standards and code systems (e.g., HL7-FHIR, SNOMED CT, etc.). The Program Specialist interprets results and makes recommendations to help inform the Primary Health Care data content standards, code systems and architecture. The incumbent seeks input from internal and external experts as required and integrates the feedback into project artifacts with the project team.
  • What you'll do
  • 1. Develops and maintains an understanding of the CIHI data content standards and relevant external standards (e.g., Primary Health Care, Home and Continuing Care, Acute and Ambulatory Care, CIHI's Reference Data Model, SNOMED-CT etc.).
  • 2. Plans, documents, and performs comparative gap analysis of standards.
  • 3. Supports analysis and engagement activities to develop and socialize the project deliverables including the data content standards, architecture, and related artifacts.
  • 4. Coordinates all operational and logístical aspects related to the project including, but not limited to, organizing and/or facilitating meetings, drafting, and developing pertinent documentation, and obtaining required approvals.
  • 5. Supports and manages the feedback and review process from stakeholders (internal and external) on relevant artifacts of the panCanadian Health Data Content Framework.
  • 6. Supports and conducts environmental scanning to understand the health care environment relating to vendor activity, EMR and HIS standards and the jurisdictional priority areas.
  • 7. Coordinates the review and feedback process of publication, translation and dissemination and communication of all material, products, and publication as they relate to primary health care, ensuring overall quality assurance.
  • 8. Provides support to internal and external strategic committees, including planning and organizing meetings, producing relevant supporting documentation, coordinating information dissemination.
  • 9. Maintains ongoing relationships with stakeholder groups within CIHI, to ensure coordination and synergy. Establishes and maintains external professional contacts.
  • 10. Supports and coordinates project deliverables including planning, monitoring and reporting of activities. Coordinates operational and logístical aspects related to the projects including scheduling meetings, preparing pertinent documentations, obtaining required approvals, financial reporting etc.
  • 11. Develops reports and briefing notes and contributes to abstracts and posters/presentations for conferences and stakeholder engagement.
  • 12. Contributes to the promotion of CIHI products and services through participation on external committees, presentations and/or attendance at conferences, preparation of articles for publication and other activities as required.
