    The Career Advisor/Navigator is responsible for assisting unemployed individuals with their career, employment and training goals and for contributing to quality service delivery through case management. The Career Advisor/Navigator will complete individual needs assessments and develop the Internationally Educated Health Professionals' (IEHPs') action plans to determine financial wrap around support and skill gap training as required, as well as subsequent referrals to reduce labor integration barriers. The responsibilities are to be carried out in accordance with the mission and policies of YWCA Toronto.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Pre-screens potential participants based on experience, eligibility criteria including having a degree/diploma in the healthcare and healthcare support fields as well as assesses the professional commitment of participants;
  • Completes individual needs assessments and develops the IEHP's action plan to determine financial wrap around support and skill gap training required and identify barriers to their employment;
  • Provides ongoing counselling services and localized employment supports such as unpaid work experience, for participants who did not achieve suitable employment;
  • Assists participants with resumes, cover letters, interview preparation, job search strategies, professional networking and labour market information;
  • Identifies employment barriers and provides appropriate and supported referrals and access to other services including, but not limited to, education and training, and other community partners supports;
  • Identifies, administers, scores and interprets relevant assessments for participants based on their individual/specialized needs; identifies participants clients with special needs and refers them to the appropriate supports/services;
  • Facilitates group work on topics including, but not limited to: career exploration and clarification, goal setting, motivation, skills and interest evaluation and intensive job search strategies;
  • Works closely with Job Developer in areas including but not limited to employer partnerships, employer engagement focus groups, employer engagement training sessions, skills gap training, networking events and mentoring programs;
  • Responsible for the timely and accurate completion of all required documentation including: participant notes/reports, statistical data, exits/closures, follow-up information, participant feedback and standardized program forms;
  • Completes individual needs assessments and develops the IEHP's action plan to determine financial wrap around support and skill gap training required and identify barriers to their employment;
  • Regularly conducts labour market research to identify new trends, resources and information that could be used to guide clients in carrying out effective job search.
  • QUALIFICATIONS
  • In-depth knowledge of an academic discipline normally acquired through the completion of an undergraduate degree in Adult Education, Career Counselling, Social Science or equivalent (Cases for Equivalency will be considered) ;
  • 3-5 years' experience in related field;
  • Group Facilitation skills required;
  • Thorough understanding of issues and barriers faced by women and newcomers to Canada;
  • Counselling approach that is flexible, de-escalates tension, teaches conflict resolution and is focused on success;
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and to adapt to program changes when required;
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, E-mail, the Internet, Zoom, MS Teams or other videoconferencing applications, database programs; knowledge of a Learning Management System, an asset;
  • Healthcare experience and/or healthcare connections, an asset.
