The Opportunity


Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC), a leader Canadian habitat conservation, is seeking a highly motivated person to fill the summer position of Conservation Technician in Halifax Regional Municipality, NS.


Duties May Include


You will be joining the Conservation team in your role of wetland conservation technician with a regional focus on Halifax Regional Municipality and occasionally Nova Scotia at large.

Your primary responsibility will be to support the Conservation Programs Specialist in wetland conservation initiatives in HRM.

This will take the form of assisting in conducting wetland assessments, wetlands and policy research, compiling reports and educational materials, and planning and assisting in the delivery of fieldwork and special events.

You may also occasionally assist DUC staff in other program areas related to education, outreach, communications, and wetland restoration. This role will include a variety of project activities and learning opportunities.

Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting in field research and data collection in wetlands primarily in Halifax
  • Data interpretation and reportwriting
  • Assisting with community events
  • Assisting in the design and delivery of educational programming
  • Working with community groups on wetland conservation and stewardship initiatives

Additional Details

  • Available for work between June and lateAugust (up to 12 weeks depending on funding).
  • The position is based on funding availability.
  • May require occasional evening/weekend work.

Requirements:


  • Must have a passion for conservation and the environment.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
  • In progress (or completed) post secondary program in an ecology, environment or sustainability related field would be considered an asset.
  • Practical field skills and understanding of basic biology, local species, and ecosystems would be considered an asset.
  • Basic GIS skills are an asset.

Salary:
$18.00/hour - 35-hour week
