Position Overview


Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Environmental & CSR Manager is responsible for driving the strategic aspects of the Environmental department for the Mississauga Cement Plant, with a focus on sustainability and carbon neutral operations.

This role is also responsible for Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.


Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Manage the environmental management system, including approvals and/or regulations under the Environmental Protection Act, the Ontario Water Resources Act, the Aggregate Resources Act
  • Support implementation of sustainability initiatives, including technologies to reduce GHG intensity, low carbon fuels and carbon capture
  • Responsible for all internal and external compliance management programs including: air emission modeling, water monitoring, field testing and agency reporting
  • Monitor and report environmental performance to plant management, employees, community and regulatory bodies
  • Act as primary point of contact for all government communications
  • Ensure good standing with ISO 14001 certification
  • Provide training to plant personnel on key environmental issues, requirements, and compliance
  • Keep plant operations abreast of changing regulatory requirements, work with plant leadership to maintain compliance
  • Identify projects for continuous improvement, work cross functionally to implement
  • Manage team of Environmental Coordinators
  • Support plant and quarry Community Advisory Panel

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience

  • Degree in environmental engineering, chemical engineering, environmental science or related technical field
  • Graduate degree (M. Eng or MBA) preferred
  • P. Eng preferred
  • 57 years work experience

Work Requirements

  • Experience with industrial environmental compliance & reporting
  • Experience with ISO 14001

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Ability to work collaboratively with engineering and various business disciplines; experienced communicating with federal, provincial and municipal agencies
  • Demonstrate strong performance managing environmental and business risk and due diligence
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Ability to understand and interpret environmental data, including technical reports, emission data, maps, and regulatory documents
  • Experience using SAP system an asset
  • Understanding the Environmental Protection Act, the Ontario Water Resources Act, the Aggregate Resources Act
  • Discretion in handling proprietary information
  • Primarily in an office environment with periodic exposure to production/manufacturing environments i.e., heavy equipment, inclement weather (heat, cold, rain etc.).
  • Some travel required, an automobile and valid drivers license needed
