Position Description
A temporary full time (1.0) Behavioural Support Teacher is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North) effective September 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025. The assignment will be at Dr. Kearney Middle School.
Dr.
Kearney Middle School is a vibrant middle school offering classes in
grades 7-9. We enroll a diverse student population of 600, 25% of whom
are of Indigenous descent. We

Qualifications and Experience
Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)
Qualifications and demonstrated ability to teach the identified subjects at the middle years level
Experience with universal design and differentiation to meet the diverse needs of students
Excellent interpersonal, communications, collaboration and organization skills
Experience/training/knowledge of Social Emotional Learning.
Demonstrated ability to create a positive classroom community
contributing to a safe, caring, and healthy school where every student
feels a sense of belonging
Strong belief in the philosophy of inclusion and the potential of all students to learn
Understanding of the BC Curriculum and ability to plan both short-term and long-term in consideration of class composition
Willingness to work in a collaborative model with staff on the foundation of enhancing student learning
Demonstrated use of classroom management practices that are pro-active and maintain student dignity
Demonstrated use of assessment practices that promote student learning and maintain student dignity
Demonstrated ability to identify, work with and assist students who are experiencing difficulties
Ability to supervise and schedule support workers
Ability to work collaboratively to develop programs to develop social skills, self-esteem, anger and anxiety management, bullying prevention and coping with peer pressure
Experience with Function Analysis of Behaviour, Behaviour Intervention Plans
Ability to support teachers within adapted classes in literacy, numeracy and science
Ability to work with students experiencing learning difficulties
Master's degree (or in progress) in special education, counselling or a related area of study
Experience or ability to work with intensive behaviour students one-on-one or in small groups.
Experience completing functional behaviour analyses (FBA) and behaviour intervention plans (BIP)
Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with school staff, school-based team, Indigenous Education Team and the Strength First Program
Knowledge of outside agencies and the ability to coordinate wraparound support for students on their caseload
Knowledge and understanding of how mental health can impact student behaviour
Experience or ability to design and implement Tier 2 and 3 plans for students on their caseload
Ability to act as a liaison between parents/guardians and the school
Excellent self-regulation and ability to remain calm in extremely stressful situations

Compensation
$2000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $4000 for teachers from other areas
$2,947 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE)
Salary as per collective agreement. Current salary grid is $63,492 - $108,576
Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enroll in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance. Benefits are employer paid based on FTE
