For over 60 years the Burnaby Association for Community Inclusion (BACI), a grassroots and Disability Confident organization, has been supporting people with disabilities across the life span to live a 'good life'.

We've learned a lot over those years and our learning has shaped the evolution of our services, our advocacy efforts and the way we help build inclusive communities.

We recognize that people with disabilities have significant gifts and abilities to offer and in your role as _Manager of Economic Inclusion, _you'll be supporting a team and the people we support to learn, grow and connect with meaningful paid employment and inclusive employers as we continue to strive towards our vision - a society that includes all people.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage, plan, direct and evaluate the services provided through BACI's Employment Services and Training (BEST). BEST works to support job seekers with diverse abilities to engage in meaningful paid employment in the community.
  • Develop and deliver programs for job readiness, supported and customized employment, selfemployment, and resource ownership.

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR:


We're looking for someone who is comfortable stepping to in to coaching, supervising and guiding a diverse staff team as they support people through their employment journey.


We're on the search for someone who can genuinely connect with and facilitate relationships with people with disabilities, families, informal networks, our partners, and employers.

You're familiar with the challenges and barriers people with disabilities experience and if not, you are willing to learn and be a part of the change.

We need someone who can take the lead from what people with disabilities are saying, and to work to bring positive and destigmatizing attitudes to the community.


We're looking for someone who is willing to jump into the unfamiliar and try out new ideas with humour, humility, persistence, and patience.

You see the importance of celebrating and learning from failure along the way.


RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • Implement the strategic plan of action to advance Economic Inclusion within the Association.

Human Resources:

  • Provide ongoing leadership and support for a staff team including regular daytoday support and case consultation as well as performing HR functions associated with the operation of this department (hiring and performance management).
  • Support staff in conducting assessments, planning and implementation of effective support for job seekers.
  • Monitor and evaluate programs and services using qualitative and quantitative measures that allow us to engage in continuous learning and evaluation and to understand the impact that our efforts are having.
  • To ensure all applicable regulations and standards are maintained at all times.

Partnership (Business/Community):

  • Develop and maintain partnerships with relevant businesses, community agencies and services towards advancing economic inclusion.
  • Raising the profile of BEST as a leader in customized and supported employment and engaging in networking, events and opportunities for collaboration that advance economic inclusion.

Organization:

  • Participate in ongoing administration of the Association as a member of the Management Team.
  • Compile and monitor regular accountability and reporting documentation.
  • Budget management.

EXPERIENCE

  • A bachelor's degree in a field related to the job goal.
  • 3+ years working in vocational/employment setting, preferably with people who are marginalized, stigmatized and isolated.
  • 3+ years working in a management position.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently but within a team setting.
  • Experience in budget preparation and in exercising financial control.
  • Experience designing effective employment supports for people with multiple, complex support needs.
  • Background or experience with developmental leadership.

  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to simply and matteroffactly explain what's needed and change your approach and tone for different audiences.
  • Being highly engaged and involved in the work of the team and being comfortable providing coaching or feedback when needed.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, and ability to build strong relationships and work in a highly collaborative environment with diverse stakeholders.
