Why is this role important?

  • In this role you will be supporting the development and production of automated reports and trending analyses related to public reporting of hospitalization statistics from the Discharge Abstract Database (DAD), Hospital Morbidity Database (HMDB) and National Ambulatory Care Reporting System (NACRS) databases. This will enable CIHI to attain comparable and actionable information on hospital stays in Canada to accelerate improvements in health care, health system performance and population health across Canada. As a coop student you will be involved in a variety of activities that support priority projects for our department, that help drive CIHI's overall mandate to deliver on better data, better decisions, for healthier Canadians. This unique opportunity will expose you to areas of improving data quality through various tools and techniques, migrating codes from SAS to Python, trending analysis, documenting processes, and gaining insight into analysis of healthcare data.
  • What you'll do
  • Use of technical tools (i.e., Python, SAS) to automate production of highquality trending analysis for annual hospitalization and childbirth indicators results.
  • Develop and document standard operating procedures
  • Assist with the preparation and validation of custom data requests, using technical tools such as SAS, Python
  • Coordinate, collaborate, communicate, monitor, report and document activities
  • Actively participate in problemsolving and execute solutions
What you'll bring to the table

  • Working towards an undergraduate or a graduate degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Statistics, Health Analytics/Informatics, and other Data Science program that require Coop as part of educational requirement
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Strong proficiency in Python, SAS
  • Ability to communicate effectively to internal and external stakeholders both verbally and written
  • Selfmotivated, high attention to detail, good problem solving skills
  • Initiative driven and gogetter attitude.
