Job Summary:


Reporting to the Director of Performing Arts, this position is responsible for supporting the technical needs for all school events and theatre productions in the areas of sound and lighting, projections, and audio-visual setup.

This role includes the internal training of staff and students.


Duties and Responsibilities

Including but not limited to the following:

  • Support the technical needs for special school events (e.g. lighting, sound, A/V) in liaison with the Senior Event Manager and Director of Performing Arts
  • Be a key member of the calendar/events team to ensure that all rehearsals the events themselves run smoothly from a technical and production perspective
  • Ensure the setup and strike of all appropriate equipment for each school event, and manage outside rental equipment when necessary
  • Work with the Performing Arts Administrative Assistant to secure quotes for outside rentals and manage deliveries and returns
  • Theatre and equipment maintenance includes regular testing, cleaning, and quality assurance of all systems, recordkeeping of all health and safety requirements, organisation of storage, and overall management of a sustainable replacement programme for necessary equipment
  • Lead the cocurricular studentled tech crew and supervise student teams that run productions and special events
  • Along with the Director of Performing Arts and the Senior Event Manager, assist event organisers to determine the technical requirements for events
  • Determine the need for external specialists to augment our own technical and production capacity as necessary
  • Support training sessions for students and staff who require the development of skills related to technical theatre knowledge

Qualifications:


  • Experience in the operation, management and maintenance of sound and lighting systems
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills with adults and young people
  • Strong organisation and time management skills
  • Good level of general IT competency
  • Ability to show initiative, learn quickly and be committed to continued training
  • Ability to stay calm while working under pressure
  • Ability to work weekends, evenings and early mornings with time off in lieu at appropriate times in the working week and particularly school holiday periods
  • Endorse the school's guiding statements
More specifically

  • Postsecondary education with a technical theatre certificate/diploma, working towards one, or equivalent experience
  • General knowledge of and experience with theatrical and performance technologies, systems, and practices including audio, video, and lighting, with at least one of the three areas being an area of expertise
  • Experience operating a sound and lighting console for live events
  • Basic knowledge of backstage procedures and theatrical organisation
  • Strong knowledge of safety protocol standards in the performance industry
  • Ability to climb and work at heights, on ladders and genie lifts
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to be flexible, with an interest in working in a school environment.
  • Are familiar with ETC lighting consoles
  • Have experience hanging and focusing lights
  • Know how to program cues on a lighting console
  • Are comfortable with care and maintenance of lighting accessories such as I Cues, scrollers, dousers, running data cable, and attaching gel strings.
  • Have some rigging experience
  • Have set up audio equipment from scratch for a live outdoor event
  • Have experience building sets and management of sets
  • Are comfortable with overseeing costume and prop management
  • Have experience working with schoolage students
