Located in Orillia and reporting to the Associate Dean, Human Services & Community Safety, the incumbent develops and delivers the Border Services and Immigration course in the Protection, Security and Investigation program.
Courses may be scheduled and delivered during the day or evening and are planned to be delivered in person at the Orillia campus or online.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
- Develops and delivers the Border Services and Immigration course: Students explore how the Canada Border Services Agency ensures the security of Canada by managing the access of people and goods to and from Canada. Students examine administration and enforcement duties of Border Services Officers as they pertain to several acts of Parliament including the Criminal Code, Customs Act and the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act with particular emphasis on the admissibility of persons entering Canada.

- Develops and delivers appropriate curriculum to meet course objectives and leaning outcomes
- Discusses role and legislative jurisdiction of Customs, Immigration and Canadian Food Inspection (Border Services), including enforcement techniques and procedures
- Explains deception identification techniques, vehicle search procedures, and identification of counterfeit goods and documents
- Demonstrates the communications, dispute resolution and critical thinking skills that today's employers are demanding both in the private and public sectors of Border Services in Canada
- Evaluates student progress / achievement
- Incorporates a variety of teaching / learning strategies to meet student needs
- Participates in program and college activities as required
- Creates and maintains a positive learning environment
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Bachelor's Degree, which may include Security or a related field
- Minimum of 3 years in Protection and Security industry
- Working knowledge of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, sections of the Customs Act, Customs Tariff Act, Excise Tax Act, Immigration Refugee Protection Act and Criminal Code
- Experience managing change and leading innovation
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to lifelong learning
- Proven ability to work deception identification techniques, vehicle search procedures, and identification of counterfeit goods and documents.
- Experience in some or all of the following is an asset: curriculum development, a variety of delivery strategies, learning methodologies, academic advising, and student success strategies
- Teaching and Training certification and / or experience in a teaching or training capacity is an asset
