This position is a part of the Non-Academic Staff Association (NASA).

Position 1 has a term length of four months

Position 2 has a term length of eight months.

Location - Work takes place at the following locations:

  • North Campus, Edmonton;
  • South Campus, Edmonton; and
  • Cloverbar Hazardous Waste Management Centre, Edmonton.

Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) offers the following services intended to facilitate safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible research and learning at the U of A:

  • Training and Competency: online and in-person learning
  • Inspection and Maintenance: Equipment and space inspection and certification
  • Hazard Management advice and support
  • Regulatory compliance advice and support
  • Incident Management: reporting and investigation


HSE has expertise in chemical, biological, radiological, and physical safety; hazardous materials and waste management; HSE regulatory compliance and consulting, field research safety; contractor safety; and environmental protection.


Position Summary
This opportunity will support the rollout of the U of A's new Chemical Inventory and Waste Management Software.

The role will include working with the project team and laboratories, shops, and other spaces to prepare for, reconcile, update, and maintain their chemical inventories in the new software.


Duties

  • Assist in developing the implementation plan for the Chemical Inventory and Waste Management Software
  • Visit laboratories, shops, and other spaces to help them prepare for the switchover.
  • Assist laboratory personnel with reconciling current inventories
  • Assist with submission of materials for waste pickups
  • Barcode chemical bottles
  • Enter the current inventories into the new software
  • Revisit the work area to assist with implementation of their new inventory
  • Train lab users in using the software for both inventory and waste management

Minimum Qualifications

  • Highschool Diploma
  • Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision
  • Adaptable, agile and technologically savvy; advanced capability with MS Office suite, Google Applications and other software.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and high levels of accuracy Excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills including strong ability to demonstrate professionalism, confidentiality, and diplomacy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in, or having completed, a bachelor's degree in a science, technology, engineering, and mathematics
  • Previous experience in inventory management
  • Previous experience in a research environment.
