Description

Nature of the Work:

  • The principal and customary work of the employee in this employment class consists in assisting the teaching personnel in the preparation, presentation, and supervision of laboratory work

Responsibilities:


  • Lab Preparation and Organization / Nursing Demonstration:
  • Prepares nursing/simulation labs according to guidelines submitted for lab classes as required
  • Puts equipment and laboratory in order after classes
  • Attends teaching labs for reference of techniques and to provide continuity and assists with lab supervision
  • Maintains and supervises lab usage
  • Assists students using lab facilities
  • Coordinates and oversees student schedule for lab classes and individual students
  • Maintains the laboratory, simulation space and related equipment in working order
  • Responsible for the safety and security of the nursing lab
  • Assists with establishing the laboratory and simulation schedules
  • Supervises, demonstrates and/or provides feedback on clinical skill performance as per course criteria
  • Assists faculty, staff and students using lab facilities (including in console manipulation) or aid in the technical support of developing case scenarios

Laboratory Equipment:

  • Researches new nursing equipment for possible purchase
  • Acts as liaison with medical associations, drug firms, and medical supply companies regarding equipment and materials
  • Assesses needs, maintains and orders supplies and equipment in collaboration with the department
  • Locates and makes available teaching material for use by students and faculty
  • Keeps an inventory of equipment and resource material, and places orders as required.
  • Utilizes appropriate services to maintain laboratory equipment

Other responsibilities:

  • Prepares and organizes laboratory area for annual Open House in October
  • Performs fitting and measurement of the N95 masks used in the clinical areas for students and faculty
  • Meets with teaching teams as necessary
  • Performs other related tasks as requested by supervisor

Requirements:


  • Qualifications:
  • To have a diploma of college studies (DEC) in an appropriate specialty or a diploma or an attestation of studies which is recognized as equivalent by the competent authority.
  • Conditions:
  • Proven knowledge of medical/surgical skills and procedures
  • Proven knowledge of clinical setting
  • Good organizational skills
  • Knowledge of computerbased laboratory equipment
  • Basic skills in Microsoft Word (testing may be required)
  • Advanced English communication skills (testing may be required)
  • Intermediate French conversation skills (testing may be required)
  • Membership with either the Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers auxiliaires du Québec (OIIAQ) or the Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers du Québec (OIIQ) or equivalent professional order from another Canadian province, an asset
