, your responsibilities
***
are: Metals Analyst - Advanced laboratory position covering a variety of responsibilities that require knowledge of chemistry and laboratory procedures. Responsible for coordination of mechanical prep crush workload. Proficient in all trace metal sample digest procedures and in leachate extraction methods - provide back-up capabilities and assistance where needed. Analyst will also assist with ICP-MS instrument sample preparation and act as a back-up analyst for the mercury workstation.

  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures and ensure strict adherence to procedures.
  • Assist with the writing and development of Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Coordinate all mechanical prep crush activities; ensure equipment maintenance is complete
  • Prepare trace metal digestions for soils, solids, biota, air quality filters and waters for complex analytical instrumentation (ICP/MS).
  • Prepare samples, subsamples and reagents. Ensure samples, extracts and standard solutions are properly labelled and stored in the appropriate location.
  • Prepare leachate extractions as required.
  • Provide advice, guidance and training to Lab Tech and Analyst I staff on the methods used within the department.
  • Ensure analytical records and all required logs are properly completed, labelled and filed.
  • Meet quality and turnaround time specifications required by the client and ensure samples are analysed within holding time requirements.
  • Provide supervisor with updates on workstation status including advance notification of any delays.
  • Apply, adapt and modify technical procedures and methods of analysis upon approval of the Section Supervisor or Department Manager.
  • Compile records and perform initial data review and interpretation. Address any anomalies by agreeing on a course of corrective action with the Section Supervisor or Department Manager.
  • Maintain control charts as per QA manual requirements, monitor for failure to meet tolerances and institute remedial action immediately.
  • Perform simple analysis, including operation of balances and meters.
  • Maintain up to date maintenance records for instrumentation.
  • General housekeeping of laboratory and workstations.
  • Prepare and clean glassware required for sample analysis.
  • Maintain consumable supplies inventory
  • All other responsibilities as assigned.
Availability for shift work, OT and weekend work required


You are an ideal

ANALYST 2

if you have [Minimum Requirements]:


  • B.Sc., technical diploma or equivalent experience
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in Trace Metals Analysis preferred
