The Traffic Engineering Branch is responsible for managing and directing the installation, maintenance and operation of all traffic control devices including traffic signals, major signs, flashing lights and pedestrian corridors and traffic guardrails, establishing standards and policies for the installation and maintenance of all traffic control devices, conducting speed limit reviews, monitoring traffic volumes, conducting intersection counts and providing traffic engineering expertise on traffic control within Engineering and Technical Services and other departments and jurisdictions.
Conditions of Employment:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must be able to travel throughout the province by ground, air, or by boat and stay overnight as required.
- Must be able to work alone, work extended hours when required, including some weekends.
- Must be able to work in a variety of outdoor weather conditions, and workplace hazards such as dust and noise, and wear personal protective equipment when required.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time and lift and carry up to 45 kilograms (100 lbs).
Qualifications:
Essential:
- Completion of a Civil Engineering Technology Diploma or Civil Technician Certificate or Electronics Engineering Technology Diploma or completion of Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure's department Level 1 training courses (or working towards) or an acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Knowledge and understanding of Occupational Safety, Health and Risk Management policies and procedures.
- Experienced with Microsoft Office software package (Word, Excel and Outlook).
- Effective interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision.
- Effective written communication skills.
- Effective verbal communication skills.
Desired:
- Experience conducting traffic monitoring counts and installing traffic monitoring equipment.
Duties:
Reporting to the Lead Traffic Monitoring Technician, the Traffic Monitoring Technician performs routine technical work in collecting traffic data for highway planning and in the installation of complex electronic data collection sites.
