The School

Meadowridge is an independent, co-educational, secular day school offering an IB education to over 670 students ages 4 to 17 (JK to 12).

The school campus is located on a 27-acre, forested parcel of land on the o outskirts of Maple Ridge, BC.

Exterior doors from classrooms provide quick access to natural spaces, including a community garden, green houses, a forest with a trail network, and a newly developed campground area.

Job Summary

The primary role of the Science Lab Technician is to assist the Science Department with the day-to-day preparation and maintenance of the science labs & equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities

Preparing teaching resources and chemicals as requested in advance by teachers
Cleaning and arranging for routine repair or maintenance of equipment
Ensuring all apparatus and chemicals are put away correctly
Maintaining tidy and wellorganized laboratories, chemical store, and preparation area
Replenishing stocks of chemical solutions
Arranging for the correct disposal of waste materials
Ensuring correct storage and maintenance of data logging equipment
Inclass support of teachers and students during experiments
Liaising with senior students about laboratory needs for independent investigations and extended essays
Liaising with Science Curriculum Coordinators for equipment orders and arranging for the purchase of consumable resources
Maintaining uptodate records of equipment and materials
Maintaining and monitoring safety procedures
Lead on Safety aspects in the Science Department
Help to manage the Science Department budget
Outofclass support of students during experiments
Periodically contact PYP teachers to help develop activities for PYP classes

Qualifications

Completion of grade 1
Postsecondary education in Sciences an asset
WHIMIS training
Effective organization and administrative skills, with attention to detail
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
Good numeracy and literacy
The ability to prioritize assignments, meet deadlines and manage the workloads of others
The ability to work both independently and cooperatively as part of a team and communicate effectively with all members of the school community
Empathy with young people and awareness of safeguarding issues
To comply with the criminal record clearance check, in accordance with the Ministry of Education
