Job Summary


The Whiteshell (WL) Manager, Maintenance and Operations is responsible for a department consisting of up to 45-55 operations related employees, including but not limited to, Building Superintendents, Operations Specialists and Operations Technicians, Site and Nuclear Operations (S&NO) Specialist Project Supervisors, Administrative Assistants, Electricians, Instruments Technicians, Sheet Metal Workers, Refrigeration, Pipefitters, Millwrights and Carpenters.

The WL Manager, Maintenance and Operations develops department goals and objectives, conducts performance reviews and provides development feedback to employees ensuring productivity gains are achieved and sustained ensuring safe, reliable conduct of operations through the provision and management of the supervisory, nuclear operator, and support staff.


The WL Manager, Maintenance and Operations is accountable for ensuring that staff and operators are able to perform work to support the ongoing transition from Storage with Surveillance through decommissioning.

The WL Manager, Maintenance and Operations will ensure that all activities at the WL site are carried out in full compliance with the site nuclear operating license, associated License Condition Handbooks, Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) Compliance Programs, Management Systems, WL S&NO Facility Authorization document, Conduct of Operations procedures, all applicable Company policies and procedures and all federal and provincial codes and regulations.


The WL Manager, Maintenance and Operations is responsible to implement continuous improvement for activities performed at WL S&NO for achieving the decommissioning objectives, protecting the health and safety of persons and environment, and meeting the requirements of the relevant codes, standards, regulations and customers Accountable for performing all maintenance, including breakdowns, corrective work, emergent work, etc.

Accountable for compliance with Conduct of Maintenance; Conduct of Operations procedures series; Audit plan requirements and monitoring of the results of the audit plan.

CNL employees perform all duties in accordance with established health and safety and regulations/guidelines, policies and procedures (i.e. utilizing personal protective equipment as per safe work procedures).

Notifies management or supervisor of all occurrences, injuries, illnesses or safety and health concerns which are likely to harm themselves, their co-workers or any other on the premises in a timely manner and in accordance with established reporting requirements.


Qualifications

Education

  • University Degree or Diploma from a recognized educational institute with eight (8) to 10 years' relevant experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience in supervisory and leadership roles within the nuclear industry.

Experience

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience as supervisor or manager of technical personnel.
  • A broad understanding of the Whiteshell site, CNL organization, and Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL).
  • Experience with nuclear facility operations, nuclear site licensing through the Nuclear Safety & Control Act
  • N28.3 and a strong knowledge of the associated federal processes.
  • Nuclear operations experience is required with a broad knowledge of the tools and capabilities required in a nuclear environment to assist in the ability of managing risk and performance in the day to day activities of the group.
  • Established track record of managing business critical functions within a complex contractual structure, preference is given to those with experience in working on environment remediation or decommissioning projects.
  • Requires knowledge of how the Whiteshell Site & Nuclear crews function and how nuclear operations tasks are safely performed and staffing requirements and training matrices.
  • Experience in leading teams is essential.
  • Experience in site nuclear operations is essential.
  • Implementing continuous improvement of the Integrated Work Control.
  • Experience in project schedules and the ability to assist in the development and or speak to fiscal year business schedules and budgets required.
  • Experience in Project Management Process to deliver projects within existing constraints (budget, schedule, quality).
  • Experience to prepare fiscal year business reports for completed projects or plan, schedule, budgets for future projects.
