- Develop an in-depth understanding of the Geotab IoT devices (such as GO, extensible product, asset trackers) firmware and how various modules work.
- Perform firmware development in the required area of expertise using C, C++ as per the development standards.
- Develop embedded system code changes end-to-end ensuring successful functionality in field devices.
- Perform troubleshooting of cellular network connectivity issues and ensure comprehensive root cause analysis & fix validation.
- Mentor junior engineers and students on system architecture and high quality modular code development.
- Troubleshoot live network issues on site for devices and carriers worldwide.
- Write unit tests and perform integration and system-level testing in both real and simulated devices, to demonstrate that new features meet design requirements.
- Write SQL queries and Python scripts on data from Google BigQuery to determine device health and effectiveness of new functionality.
- Conduct comprehensive testing and code reviews to ensure that industry coding standards are followed.
- Keep up-to-date documentation for all areas of responsibility.
- Up to 25% travel time may be required in order to troubleshoot connectivity issues within North America.
- Post-secondary Diploma/Degree with specialization in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- 5-8 years experience in embedded systems design with preemptive, multitasking real-time operating systems.
- Strong knowledge of programming languages (C/C++ ) in an embedded software context.
- Experience with wireless network standards such as 3G, LTE CAT1, CATM1
- Experience interfacing with network sockets, PPP & TCP/IP drivers
- Experience with wireshark and QXDM log analysis
- Experience with RTOS and Linux.
- Experience with Agile methodologies such as SCRUM.
- Understanding of underlying electronics to the point where it influences firmware development and debugging.
- Experience with SQL is an asset
- Familiar with data structures, algorithms, and design patterns common to embedded (resource-constrained) systems development.
- Adequate knowledge of reading schematics and data sheets for components.
- Able to research and solve open-ended design problems.
- Experience working within a technical or engineering organization, with knowledge of the high-technology/telematics industry is an asset.
- Well versed in modern scripting languages ( bash, Python, TCL, etc.) is highly valued
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to communicate and document complex technical systems and decisions and articulate next steps for issue troubleshooting.
