Position Summary

Our UHN Biobank Program processes and stores research samples from patients with cancer, infectious and other diseases, or who are undergoing organ transplantation.

The biospecimens are used by world-class medical researchers at Canada's largest academic hospital system, University Health Network.


Duties
We are looking for an outstanding, recent graduates in the Life Sciences to be part of our team.

UHN Biobank Research Technical Assistants will work with permanent staff in the three areas of the Program:
Biobanking (research specimen banking and distribution), Information Technology and Biospecimen Analysis.

As a Research Technical Assistant with our program, you may participate in coordinating research projects such as personalized medicine clinical trials.

You may also be involved in processing blood and body fluids from patients participating in our collaborator's projects. You will have the opportunity to work in a state-of-the-art Biobank supporting cutting edge research at UHN. As part of our team you may also have an opportunity to present at internal scientific meetings.


Qualifications

  • At a minimum Community College required; recent Bachelor of Science degree in Life Sciences, Bioinformatics or other related field preferred. Other requirements
  • Undergraduate coursework in human anatomy, physiology and molecular biology preferred
  • Demonstrated interest in human diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular and infectious diseases, and multiorgan transplantation
  • Familiarity with medical terminology
  • Three (3) months related research or technical experience
  • Selfstarter able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent problem recognition and problem solving abilities
  • Effective organizational, time management and prioritization skills
  • Good verbal and written communication
  • Client service experience an asset
