Your Opportunity:


As a Maintenance Worker IV and member of the 24-hour building operations team, the Central Control group reports to the Facility Manager and works in partnership with the Facilities maintenance and engineering team.

Primarily working to monitor, maintain and operate plant-related systems within the facility, you will respond to a variety of building related problems and emergencies.

Exhibiting a high level of professionalism and customer service, you will communicate with staff on a regular basis to assist with maintenance concerns.

As shift work is also a part of this position, you will play a key role in a variety of afterhours responses such as maintenance or repair tasks, assisting in hoarding set ups, assisting with flood/water release remediation activities, and performing various housekeeping duties.

Some outdoor work in all weather conditions will be required at times.

The primary location will be at the Royal Alexandra Hospital and Gene Zwozdesky center at Norwood but if an event unfolds, this person may be asked to work at other sites within the zone.

Potential multi-site duties as directed by FM&E Director or Manager.


Description:

As a Maintenance Worker IV, you will perform a variety of highly skilled and complex maintenance and repair work requiring considerable initiative and judgment in determining the appropriate work methods consistent with standards, regulations and procedures.

You will utilize your supervisory and/or maintenance skills and experience to perform preventative maintenance and repair duties on specialized equipment and building control systems, and to provide leadership and direction to other maintenance staff in order to meet operational requirements.

In addition, you will perform specialized machine repairs, as well as the maintenance and monitoring of systems and equipment.

You may be responsible to resolve escalated operational issues; act as a delegate for the Manager on operational issues; participate in the recruitment and selection of new staff; assisting the design and implementation of preventative maintenance programs; estimate project costs; and liaise with outside agencies and contractors.

Required Qualifications:


Completion of post-secondary education in a related field and/or technical certification in a related field required or 4th Class Power Engineer Certificate as per ABSA kW rating guidelines where boiler support is necessary.


Additional Required Qualifications:

An understanding of automation controls including airflow commands, fan switching, point memos and operator commands is required. Must be able to communicate clearly in English, both verbally and in writing. Must be able to work both independently as well as in a team environment. Must be physically capable to carry out the duties of this position (i.e. walk for long periods of time, climb ladders, lift and move heavy material or equipment and respond quickly to building emergencies). Must have proficient communication skills and high aptitude to work within a team setting while demonstrating AHS CARES values. Must be able to communicate with staff and clientele in a respectful and courteous manner at all times.

Must have critical thinking skills and be able to diffuse and control problematic / high stress situations in a calm and timely manner.

Must be able to work in a hospital environment and work around traumatic events that occur in a hospital setting.


Preferred Qualifications:

Previous related experience in a healthcare facility is preferred.

Extensive knowledge in one or more of plumbing, mechanical, electrical, sterilizer equipment, nurse call systems and automated building systems is an asset.

Proficient computer skills.
