Program Manager

  • Primarily remote/work from home with occasional inperson meetings._
  • Program Manager must be able to travel to various communities across Ontario, during all weather conditions, and be a commutable distance to the_ Etobicoke head office_
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation_
  • Start date: April 1, 2024_

Your ability to multi-task and manage your own work and projects is essential to this position, as you will be responsible for getting deliverables completed efficiently against pre-determined deadlines.

You need to be resourceful, a good problem solver and organized with strong attention to detail. You are also efficient and comfortable working in a traditional and virtual team environment.


This role is well-suited to an energetic and organized individual with strong written, verbal communication skills and strong project management skills who enjoys working autonomously and within a team environment.


_ Duties and Responsibilities_

  • Manage trade specific apprentices, employers, and associations relationships while providing wraparoundsupport to all parties.
  • Onboarding and registering new apprentices within the apprenticeship system
  • Helping various audiences navigate the apprenticeship pathway through public speaking and presentations both inperson and virtually
  • Attend, participant and collaborate in internal and external meetings both inperson and virtually when required
  • Identify potential conflicts within programs and projects
  • Mediate potential disagreements between members, stakeholders, and partners.
  • Implement conflict resolution techniques, such as negotiation, compromise, and consensusbuilding strategies to maintain program momentum.
  • Present information clearly and concisely, even in highpressure situations.
  • Navigate formal and informal communication channels with finesse.
  • Collaborate with team members to recruit, onboard, and manage program staff
  • Support and guide apprentice journey to completion including preparation for certification exams
  • Participate in Local Apprentice Committee(LACs) meetings, and various Advisory Committees with Colleges and other stakeholders
  • Employer outreach to new or existing employers including employer associations
  • Apprentice outreach to new or existing apprentices
  • Establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with ministry contacts, community groups, partners, associations, employment agencies and other organizations to help achieve the goals of the program
  • Assist in building relationships with Provincial School Boards (Elementary & Secondary, specifically OYAP, Coop, Dual-Credit & SHSM programs), Colleges & Training Delivery Agents (TDA's)
  • Representing SOY at industry related events

_ Must haves:

  • 35 years of progressive program and/or project management and coordination experience
  • 35 years of human resources experience or supervisory experience including recruiting and interviewing
  • Competent in making routine decisions and working with mínimal guidance
  • Ability to implement conflict resolution techniques, such as negotiation, compromise, and consensusbuilding.
  • Judgement and ability to Identify potential conflicts early and develop strategies to prevent escalation.
  • Ability to effectively present to or facilitate small or large groups events
  • Has a comfortable flair and enjoyment for public speaking both virtually and in person. Welcomes the opportunity to present to large audiences, whether in formal boardroom meetings, conferences, trade specific panels, or informal team gatherings.
  • Adjust your communication style based on the context and the people you interact with.
  • Navigate both formal and nonformal situations with ease.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problemsolving skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and navigate complex project environments.
  • Program Manager must be able to travel to various communities across Ontario, during all weather conditions, and be a commutable distance to the Etobicoke head office
  • Program Manager should be able to lift, carry, and manage various equipment and supplies.
