About The Good Companions

The Good Companions is a non-profit seniors' centre and community support services agency that delivers programs and services to support the health and well-being of older adults.

The Seniors' Centre Without Walls (SCWW) program is a "virtual seniors' centre" that offers programming via group telephone calls to isolated seniors who may be unable to join in-person.

The Opportunity

As the French Coordinator of the Seniors' Centre Without Walls (SCWW) Expansion Project, you'll join a dynamic and talented team who are focused on reaching isolated seniors by connecting them to phone-based programs they can access from the comfort of their own homes.

Educational seminars, health and wellness presentations, music, and trivia sessions help seniors connect to information, their community, and each other.

It's a proven program that helps reduce loneliness, builds a sense of belonging, and creates friendships.

You'll deliver the program to seniors in the Ottawa area and help support our partner organizations across Ontario and Atlantic Canada to reach isolated seniors in their own communities.

What we offer

  • Work that makes a difference in the lives of seniors who are isolated and lonely by connecting them to engaging programs and to each other.
  • An environment to collaborate and contribute to a dedicated and passionate Team, where your unique experience, insight, and ideas are critical for the Team's success
  • An opportunity to use your creativity and innovation to develop resources and supports to help partner organizations launch or expand SCWW programs in their own communities reaching 1000's of isolated seniors across Ontario and Atlantic Canada.

What will you do?

Deliver a phone-based SCWW program in French to local Ottawa area seniors

  • Develop and distribute materials to promote the program to local stakeholders including community support agencies, health care professionals, community organizations, etc.
  • Create and share a SCWW program calendar for each month
  • Organize and host the phone sessions
  • Manage intakes, program registration, and followup calls
  • Use database and other software programs to track and report program data

Engage and support SCWW programs run by partner organizations across Ontario and Atlantic Canada

  • Identify agencies and organizations that would be interested in launching a SCWW program in their community.
  • Build relationships with potential partners to promote the benefits of the program and offer the supports provided by the Expansion Project Team.
  • Provide ongoing training, coaching, and support to partners
  • Collaborate with the Expansion Project Team to plan and implement monthly networking sessions for partners and regular professional development events
  • Develop and share resources to make it easier for partners to promote, plan, and deliver their own programs

What do you need to succeed?

  • Must be Bilingual
  • English/French (fluent reading, writing and speaking)
  • Considerable experience working with seniors and older adults
  • Strong organizational skills, able to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively
  • Ability to initiate and build relationships with various stakeholders
  • Program coordination or planning knowledge would be an asset
  • Coaching/training/teaching experience would also be an asset.

Not sure if you should apply??
This is a great opportunity for professionals who've been passionately serving seniors in both the non-profit and private sector.

If you have customer service, recreation, or sales/marketing experience in a seniors' services environment (retirement residence, home care, other seniors' services) we encourage you to apply.
