Hours of work:

Varied, up to 37.5 hours per week.

Flexibility in work schedule may be required periodically (evenings and/or weekends) to accommodate participant availability for completion of study-related activities.


Overview:


The University of Ottawa Heart Institute is Canada's largest and foremost cardiovascular health centre dedicated to understanding, treating and preventing heart disease.

Investigators in the Division of Prevention and Rehabilitation have a unique array of initiatives and programs with a particular emphasis on innovative approaches to prevention (primary and secondary) and treatment of cardiovascular disease.


Current research projects

  • Cardiac Couples research investigating the impact of couple relationships on the physical and mental health of cardiac couples, including an evaluation of the _Healing Hearts Together_ intervention;
  • Psychological profile and intervention needs of patients with Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD);
  • Couple and family relationships among young women with heart disease;
  • Mental health and remote services for heart failure and transplant patients; and,
  • Various projects in behavioural medicine and mental health.

Job summary:


Working under the direction of the Principal Investigator and Research Coordinator, the Research Assistant will be responsible primarily for participant recruitment, study assessments and data entry, in addition to other study support activities.

The Research Assistant will be self-motivated, a highly competent individual with strong interpersonal and communication skills, have a good understanding of research and ethical practice, and possess the knowledge and skills needed to work in a clinical research environment.


Key responsibilities:


  • Support daytoday operations and responsibilities of the project in conjunction with the Research Coordinator to ensure completion of project deliverables and outputs
  • Actively contribute to the participant recruitment strategy and activities
  • Regularly meet with study investigators and research staff
  • Coordinate participant assessments according to the research protocol
  • Enter participant data and conduct data quality assessment activities using tools including SPSS and REDCAP

Requirements:


  • Enrolled in or completed a Bachelor's degree in a healthrelated discipline, including psychology, nursing, public health, medicine, etc.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organization and timemanagement skills with the ability to multitask are essential for ensuring study progress
  • High level of proficiency with computer software (e.g., MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Demonstrated understanding of principles of good research and data collection practices
  • Ability to speak in both French and English is an asset
  • Ability to work in a team and able to function independently, while demonstrating meticulous attention to detail and selfmotivated problemsolving skills
