We are hiring a full-time, permanent

Electrical & Instrumentation Maintenance Technician position working out of the Darlington Water Treatment Plant in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada.


The Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Maintenance Technician is accountable for performing routine Journeyman Level work for preventative and corrective maintenance, installation, and integration of various types of plant process controls and instrumentation equipment for the successful operation of the plant systems.

This position is also accountable for diagnosing and making repairs to electrical power, and motor and motor control circuits within the plant.

What you'd be responsible for

  • Ensuring the delivery of optimal results of maintaining the DWTP 24/7 operations targets. Including preventative and corrective maintenance of process controls, instrumentation and equipment, PLC and HMI monitors, controllers, integrators, and online analyzers as required by Evoqua Equipment Manuals and Guides.
  • Performing Electrician work:
  • Drawing schematic wiring diagrams for asbuilt drawings;
  • Interpreting drawings and the manufacturer's specifications for the installation, modification or repair of equipment;
  • Installing new CSA approved electrical equipment according to regulations;
  • Installing, programming, and wiring logic controllers and graphic systems.
  • Performing Instrumentation Technician work:
  • Maintaining, repairing, calibrating, and installing electrical/instrumentation equipment;
  • Programming, analyzing, tuning and modifying Plant SCADA systems;
  • Utilizing software such as Evoqua Link2Site, Annex Systems, and CMMS IVARA asset management systems;
  • Preparing Change Management Documents for approval.
  • Responding to emergency callouts and participating in standby/callout duties.
  • Researching and support purchasing required materials and parts
  • Preparing sketches and diagrams, estimating materials and reviewing labour requirements for specific projects.
  • Maintaining equipment service and repair records.
  • Making safety a priority and supporting EPCOR's goals of a "zero injury" culture.
  • Working with contractors, and supporting necessary information and supervision of contractor's work.
What's required to be successful

  • Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Valid (dual trades) Journeyman Electrician and Instrumentation Technician Certificates are required.
  • 3+ years of experience as a certified Journeyman is required.
  • To meet the demands of the position, good physical health is required; ability to wear SCBA and other personal safety equipment is required; clearance on preplacement medical, and drug and alcohol testing will be required.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook and SharePoint) is required.
  • Experience in basic operation practices and principles of advanced water treatment processes.
  • Experience with Water/Wastewater operations, Water Distribution, Wastewater Collections or Industrial Treatments.
  • Experience with advanced computerized systems that are utilized in water and/or wastewater treatment facilities is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of standard methods, principles, practices, tools and equipment of the E&I maintenance trades.
  • Strong understanding of the occupational hazards and safety precautions with regards to E&I maintenance activities.
  • Understanding of the principals, procedures, materials, tools and safety practices used in water or wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Understanding Preventative and Predictive Maintenance philosophies.
