Reporting to the Manager, Business Intelligence (BI), the Lead, Technical (Business Intelligence) will help outline the Business Intelligence strategy and processes considering that within OH there will be centralized and de-centralized teams building Business Intelligence solutions.

The Technical Lead will be driving and delivering Business Intelligence projects by working with OH program areas and lines of businesses to understand their reporting requirements, outline technical solutions, get them developed, validated, deployed, and maintained.

The Technical Lead, on behalf of the BI team, will support OH enterprise initiatives and projects related to BI platforms.

The BI team focuses on delivering enterprise scale BI solutions to the OH leadership team, Cancer, Access to Care and other OH program areas.

The person will collaborate with business, technical and operations teams and guide the business intelligence team in their technical work.

This role will be responsible for creation of list of requirements, understand their priorities, dependencies, organize them into releases, manage work items, address challenges, provide technical guidance to team and get solutions delivered.

This role will also contribute towards data and analytics initiatives of the Information Management, Decision Support and Analytics team (IMDA).

Typically, this role does the following activities:

  • Help outline the Business Intelligence strategy and processes keeping in mind that within OH there will be centralized and de-centralized teams building Business Intelligence solutions
  • Solution architect Business Intelligence solutions using Power BI, Azure platform, and other BI tools
  • Drive and deliver multiple data analytics and business intelligence initiatives and projects simultaneously by collaborating with a diverse group of stakeholders, including management, business, and IT-
  • Lead and participate in functional and technical specification reviews
  • Provide guidance and technical expertise for BI solutions to other team members
  • Develop best practices and standards related to Power BI
  • Leads troubleshooting of production related issues, coordinating the involvement of IT operations, Enterprise Data Warehouse, Analytics Data Hub, and any other required personnel.
  • Supports IMDA leadership, interacts with Program teams, Digital and Technology teams, other Analytics teams, and BI team to operationalize or realize the directions of the Programs.
  • Typically, applies an expertise to support decision making and recommends solutions prior to escalation to the sponsors and leadership team.-
  • Collaborates with other stakeholders across organization to identify, inform and deliver on department-wide initiatives.
Here is what you will need to be successful:

Technical and Project skills:

  • Extensive experience in Microsoft Power BI Desktop, Microsoft Power BI Dataflows, Microsoft Power BI Report Builder, Microsoft Power Automate, Tabular Editor, DAX Studio and VertiPaq Analyzer
  • Proficient in DAX, M, Power Query, SQL, and performance optimization
  • Experience in developing and implementing Power BI solutions. This includes Power BI administration, data modelling, designing, development and testing of reports.
  • Experience designing high quality interfaces to present information in a meaningful way to end users e.g., ability to create wireframes, prototypes, and proof of concepts
  • Experience working on enterprise scale business intelligence solutions using Power BI, Microstrategy SSRS/SSIS, Dundas BI.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Azure
  • Experience integrating/embedding business intelligence solutions with enterprise scale reporting portals
  • Experience with analyzing data in source systems to identify data cleanliness issues (e.g., missing values, duplicate meanings, and invalid data)
  • Experience in developing enterprise architecture deliverables (e.g., business, logical, and physical models) based on Enterprise Application Processes and Modeling methodology and guidelines
  • Ability to translate business and data requirements into specifications for designing business intelligence solutions using Power BI
  • Experience leading agile projects, creating, and maintaining requirement backlogs to ensure solutions are delivered
  • Knowledge and skills of Agile Project Management
  • Knowledge and experience in information design is an asset
  • Experience with Power BI Apps, and Power BI tenant administration is an asset
  • Knowledge and experience with Synapse are an asset
  • Awareness of emerging Business Intelligence trends and directions
  • Proficiency with desktop analysis software including Microsoft Excel, VBA
