Description
The Skilled Trades Connection (STC) project takes a collaborative approach offering an integrated, efficient and seamless pathway to skills development and employment for BIPOC youth to in-demand careers in the construction trades.
It also provides a solution to employers to support their labour market and talent needs.
Each cohort will involve 15 weeks of customized training prior to employment, this will be broken down by 3 weeks dedicated specifically for training and workshops on employability, mental health and wellbeing, and entrepreneurial/self-employment skills building.
This will be followed by 12 weeks of customized theoretical and hands-on training on Introduction to Home Renovation which will cover a wide variety of trades and give participants exposure to multiple career paths in the construction industry.
This 12-week intensive training is designed to get individuals trained and working in the construction industry in a short period of time.
Primary responsibilities will be to actively market participants' skills to the employer community in order to create placement opportunities.In addition, you will fulfill the role of a by the Coach by providing job placement/ maintenance coaching and advice to participants who are successful in securing employment.
The Coach works one-on-one with program participants to identify and pursue job opportunities and provide individualized review and feedback on their use of the job search skills developed in the program.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in setting up facilities, ordering resources, and preparing program materials
- Provide program outreach/marketing and will recruit and screen applicants for the program
- Facilitate workshops, co
- Provide individual coaching/counselling regarding action planning, community resources, and job search
- Provide assistance/backup as needed to the STC Facilitator, including visiting and/or calling work placements and engaging in problem solving as needed
- Collect and analyze stats and program evaluation data, and draft monthly/quarterly reports for review by the STC Project Manager
- Conduct follow up activities to ensure the success of the program and participants program outcomes for the project
- Other project duties as assigned.
- Postsecondary degree or diploma in business, social services or related area
- A minimum of 3 years of experience providing community services, facilitating workshops and counseling
- Experience working with youth with multiple barriers to their employment is preferred
- Some program coordination/leadership experience is preferred
- Knowledge of community demographics, the business community and local support services is an asset
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to organize and lead group workshops and coordinate activities
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff, community partners, and youth
- Strong outreach, marketing, and organizational skills
- Computer literacy, with skills in Internet, MS Outlook and MS Office.
