The Opportunity:


The Lab Operations Coordinator reports directly to the Lab Director and is responsible for supporting the administrative aspects of managing the lab functions related to the department and operation of the lab.

This includes coordinating and maintaining laboratory equipment calibrations and maintenance, staff orientation, contributing to study start up activities (such as budgeting), and maintaining, and enforcing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Laboratory Manuals, providing daily support of lab operations, lab purchases, reconciling lab purchases and coordinating lab activities.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Planning/Prioritizing/Organizing/Leading

  • Ensure Good Clinical Laboratory Practices (GCLP) are facilitated and followed
  • Biosafety: Ensure Biosafety practices are adopted at all times; provide certificates & selfchecklists on a regular basis and maintain them uptodate
  • Maintain and support a documented system of lab SOPs, policies, and procedures
  • Support quality assurance and quality assurance policies and procedures
  • Supply Management: Inventory tracking, keeping stock of and ordering reagents, supplies, equipment etc.
  • Orient and support lab staff and students in conjunction with the Lab Director
  • Provide training and development opportunities for lab team
  • Ensure lab/lab equipment maintenance & certification is current
  • Provide support to lab Investigators: Students, checkin documents, record keeping
  • Budget development and management: Assist the Lab Director with budget development and tracking, and other financial requirements of labrelated work including invoice reconciliation
  • Coordinate study startups with clinical staff and attend meetings as required
  • Introduce new skills and techniques as needed by the research projects

Hours of Work:

Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours/week


Your Qualifications:


  • Relevant Bachelor's Degree or diploma education (Microbiology, Immunology, Biology, Science) and 24 years minimum related experience is required.
  • Relevant experience within a university, hospital, or comparable environment in a research setting is considered an asset
  • Excellent time management skills and experience
  • Knowledge of Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP) as appropriate
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of laboratory practices, principles, and methods for research as per Laboratory
  • Quality Management (LQM) standards
  • Knowledge of Biosafety and GLP standards and practices
  • Knowledge of laboratory equipment and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and preventative maintenance
  • Problemsolving skills with meticulous attention to detail
  • Selfmotivated with strong organizational skills
  • Ability to take initiative and troubleshoot
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to speak, listen and write in a clear manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques
  • Demonstrate a high level of organizational, time management, and decisionmaking skills
  • Experience leading laboratory activities in clinical research is an asset
  • Experience in project management activities, and/or budget development/tracking is an asset
  • Awareness of organizational and institutional processes, contracts, and SOPs is an asset
