    The FTE for this position is 0.8. The compensation range at 0.8 FTE is $3,547.22 – $4,183.05 CAD Monthly.

    Job Summary
    Reporting to the Principal Investigator(s) and supervised by the Project Coordinator, the Assistant Project Coordinator facilitates the recruitment and interviewing of potential study participants, through direct in-person, phone and online outreach activities. The Assistant Project Coordinator will also support Interviewers/Outreach Workers in carrying out research activities and providing necessary project resources. This position contributes to the development and maintenance of contacts with individuals, community-based organizations, service providers across the province of BC.
    Organizational Status
    Located in Vancouver, BC, the Centre for Gender and Sexual Equity (CGSHE) is a UBC academic research centre housed at Providence Health Care , ). The CGSHE has a strategic mandate of leadership in promoting gender equity and sexual health equity through in BC, Canada and globally. The CGSHE currently consists of over 100 staff and faculty, including academic and clinical researchers, graduate students, and frontline research staff, working out of our CGSHE administrative offices and our community/clinical research hub in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. We work in a highly collaborative team and strive to hire members from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences.
    Work Performed

    • Conducts outreach activities off-site in the community services setting and/or other facilities with varying environments (e.g. drop-in centres, shelters, non-profit residences, private SROs, health care facilities, public spaces in inner city setting). Outreach activities will also include phone and internet-based communication (e.g. e-mail, online forums).
    • Establishes contact and networks with provincial community organizations/services over the phone, by e-mail, or other means of communication as necessary.
    • Facilitates participant recruitment, interviewing, and follow-up activities and is point of contact regarding study information and questions.
    • Pre-screens potential research participants according to study protocols and enrolls eligible participants.
    • Responsible for assuring informed consent procedures and ethical guidelines for research involving human subjects is followed as per provided training.
    • Trains Interviewers/Outreach Workers on outreach and data collection protocols as needed.
    • Supports Interviewers/Outreach Workers with outreach materials, pre-screening prospective participants, provides questionnaires and resources required for conducting research interviews.
    • Ensures policies and procedures for data management are followed and all documents are entered and filed as required by ethical guidelines.
    • Participates in presentations to community organizations and other knowledge translation and community engagement activities as needed (e.g., advisory meetings, reports).
    • Refers participants to appropriate services when required.
    • Performs other related duties as required.
    • The incumbent will work out of CGSHE in designated, appropriate workspace at the CGSHE/ UBC Clinical / Community Research Hub and/or CGSHE/UBC Hornby St offices.

    Consequence of Error/Judgement

    This position entails a high level of confidentiality and discretion. Failure to maintain research and program information in confidence could result in damage to credibility and poor relations with internal and external stakeholders. Errors in judgment could result in serious financial or

    reputational consequences for the Centre, undermining the Centre's ability to meet commitments and achieve its strategic objectives, including the inability to successfully meet granting agencies' deliverables. Poor public/private sector relationships could result in a negative image of CGSHE and may impact levels of research funding made available through partnerships. Errors could result in significant concerns regarding the liability, credibility, and integrity of the Centre, PHC/ PHCRI, and the University.

    Supervision Received
    Reports directly to Principal Investigators and works under the supervision of the Project Coordinator(s). Works under general direction within established policies, procedures, and standards. Work reviewed against task objectives and conformity to standards.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Completion of a relevant technical program or a university degree in a relevant discipline and a minimum three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree in Health or Social Sciences, Public Health, Public Policy or related field an asset.
    • Experience in frontline/ community services or community organizing experience with underserved communities.
    • Community knowledge and/or lived experience working with relevant communities.
    • Strong gender and social equity lens and knowledge and experience with underserviced populations.
    • Research experience or training is an asset.
    • Current CPR, sexual health, and/or naloxone administration training an asset.
    • Class 5 Drivers License an asset.
    • Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills including conflict management / crisis resolution skills.
    • Organized with meticulous attention to detail.
    • Ability to work independently and within a diverse team environment
    • Familiarity with community services locally (Metro Vancouver) and provincially is an asset.
    • Flexibility in hours and willingness to work across CGSHE offices and community to support outreach and recruitment.
    • Experience with data entry is an asset.
    • Excellent time management skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines.
    • Knowledge and skills to work with diverse community collaborators, service providers and other stakeholders.
    • Computer skills including experience in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
