As a member of the team, the Underwriter communicates with various sources, assesses evidence of insurability and executes underwriting decisions, adhering to quality and service level standards.

What will you do?

Provides technical expertise in assessing morbidity and mortality risks using an individual underwriting methodology
Interprets business financial statements and tax forms to calculate earned income
Communicates directly with applicants and benefit administrators on underwriting decisions
Handles difficult phone calls from applicants who have been declined or approved substandard for insurance coverage
Provides support in implementing continuous improvements
Actively participate in team meetings and supporting the team with its objectives
Inspire the trust of others and work with integrity

What do you need to succeed?

Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to be persuasive in negative situations and write clearly and informatively
Bilingualism (French, English) required

- immediate manager is a unilingual Anglophone outside Quebec, interactions with English-speaking customers or partners

Well organized individual with strong analytical skills, excellent problem solving ability and attention to detail
Must have a positive attitude and commitment to quality service
Ability to remain calm under pressure
Must be a strong team player
Inspires the trust of others
Comfort with ambiguity; track record of success at turning vague information into sound underwriting decisions
Completed or working towards Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) or Fellow, Academy of Life Underwriting (FALU) is an asset
